Bartel Named MD At WKTU

CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40/Rhythmic WKTU/NEW YORK PD JEFF Z ups weekend/Swing personality BARTEL to MD. In a press release, JEFF Z commented, "BARTEL has been a great addition to our staff both on and off the air since he arrived."

Previously, BARTEL, who has been at WKTU since SEPTEMBER '04, served as Programming/Music Coordinator at KKDL/DALLAS and as PD at WPYO/ORLANDO.

-------------------------

I never really looked at the playlist from KKDL, but looking at WPYO is more of a Rhythmic than a dance station.
Does anyone know if it was more of a dance station when he was there?
Does anyone see any sort of adjustments in the playlist for KTU?

Does anyone know if it was more of a dance station when he was there?
It was a very good one before he got there... not blaming the failure on him... but after he left, the station never sounded the same as when it did when Phil Michaels was there.

Its a good question but I would assume its gonna be more of the same stuff ktu is playing now. The Freestyle Free for all on sundays has never sounded better for giving the new freestyle a chance (except of course that awful mix at11P)

I first heard his skills on WPYO, which is I thought was pretty good considering he had to put in some hip-hop. They had great mixshows and spawned off Party 93.1 down in Miami... ohh 2001, what a great year<P ID="signature">______________

I agree... best of luck to Bartel... 1999 - 2001 was a great year for dance music...

Like Russ said, the reason as to why 95.3 Party sounded so good back then was b/c of Phil Michaels, as well as Party's then MD...Vic The Latino. Phil ended up leaving to start Party 93.1 Miami, and Vic of course went to KTU.

99-2001 - that's 3 years not one! And Bartel wasn't the PD at WPYO at the time.

Sorry I meant three years... My Bad... Yea Bartel wasn't in Florida then he was in Texas... I remember when Bartel was on Q102 Philly...

I worked with Bartel back at WPYO (when it was a dance station) and I can tell you that Bartel definitely deserves the MD gig at KTU. He did a tremendous job at PYO and I think he is a perfect fit at KTU. Congrats Bartel!!!

Speaking of Phil Michaels (Trueba), I saw his name listed on the credits on a recent Promo Only Dance Radio issue. Anyone know if he's working at Promo Only full time now, or is he just lending a hand to Cary Vance with the dance-related stuff?

Yeah, Skyy is now in the house as the new PD at XM's dance hits channel, "BPM". He has been making some changes the past few weeks at the channel, and a whole new overhaul with new dj's, shows, and a new sound is supposed to debut on "BPM" today (1/9) at noon. So far it seems that he has expanded the playlist and included more dance gold and a bigger library. But, to my dissapointment, it also seems he has moved the channel somewhat more towards an NYC House sound. I hope they don't go too far in this direction. I always liked the international/euro sound of "BPM" much better than "the Beat" on Sirius.
