Baseball Coverage

Here we are in baseball season - and we have a dearth of knowledgeable baseball talent on air! WLW did have Doc Rodgers who could ably analyze the Reds, and at the same time appreciate players. Now, all we get is negative harping on a theme - like "you can't cook without ingredients". Man - with so many former players around - you'd think we could get one on the air, so fans like me could keep learning how the game should be managed and played, and be able to break down the games. Chick Ludwig is fun and upbeat at least - but where is he?? WLW apparently won't use him on extra innings.

I agree, I tuned last Saturday night while the Reds were in a rain delay and Rocky Boiman was talking local politics. Rocky Boiman is no Doc Rodgers and has no knowledge of Cincinnati sports. Why can't WLW get Joe Morgan to host Extra Innings? He'd be perfect.

Oh painful...Chick Ludwig back on extra innings but paired with motor mouth - who also doesn't enunciate well, not to mention bad language. Chick DOES NOT need a partner.

The only reason to pair Chuck Ludwig with Rocky Boiman is because there is no one calling in. I agree Boiman needs to slow down and stay on one topic. His train of thought is all over the place. WLW used to be so much better than it is now that it's a shell of itself. That said, They could run Polka music and still get a 12 share.

Well - Chick Ludwig on today after shortened Reds game - but there again, he's paired up with a mic hog who barely takes calls. If they give Chick some slack he is much better with callers and is actually friendly.

I'm not much a fan of Mo either however He's better than Rocky Boiman. Mo does have a Motor mouth but is knowledgeable about baseball. I wonder if they are testing out partners for Chick Ludwig? I agree with you that Chick does not need a partner unless they have no one calling in on the post game show.

He did. And during football season he covers NFL for BBC, and also local Bengals coverage. OK fine - imo that really doesn't translate to other formats. Also he was a local township commissioner - and that is supposed to qualify him for political talk. Ha - he parrots main stream political and military hacks. Really doesn't have a clue.

Do have to give tip of baseball cap to WLW for All Star Game coverage - as far as being on scene for all the activities. Quite a feat that the city in general pulled off. High points for me: the Homerun Derby and Reds Franchise 4 with Rose. Crowd tells it like it is.

I agree. He sounds good. Maybe this is the start of something???

How about this to give him some extra duties...how about have him take over the reigns when there is a rain delay? They can call it the Reds Hotline with Chick Ludwig. They would have to change the theme song a bit...but he does do well with fielding callers.

I tell you what - at least on WLW they don't interrupt the actual game for commercials. Thought I'd listen to ESPN 1530 last night - Sunday, Royals v Angels. At a point late in game with men on base, station ran string of 9 commercials. (I counted just to see) So disgusted I turned it off. National sports shows are horrible - and half the spots are govt. commercials.

Hopefully Chick will get regular extra innings next season. Now, today - he was paired with Garrett Sabelhaus, and I think that was a real good pairing. What a concept, they both let each other talk and sound like they are having fun. Plus they can do baseball and football. Also they did great job of defending Joey Votto.

Now that we are back in spring training, has anyone heard Chick doing any broadcasts? I heard the first game and everyone sounded like they were in good form. I wish that they had kept the original "Reds on the Radio" promos and not the ACDC version.
