Baseball Coverage

WOW - great finale by Aroldis! Ends the game 8th and 9th inning with like 5 pitchers or so. Top of the heap. Boy, sure appreciate the heads up on WSCR - The Score. Really fun to hear Cubs beat Dodgers and make it to the WS.

Happy for Aroldis Chapman and the Chicago Cubs making it to WS. It should be a good one. Go Cubs. 670 WSCR should be booming into the Cincinnati area now because of the cooler weather.

Previously referenced here, producer/host Garrett Sabelhaus as a seeming up and coming on air talent - prior to his moving on to greener pastures somewhere. WLW now has a nice talent in young James Rapien. Kid is not fazed at all by being on air - and is plenty entertaining. Hopefully he will continue to get fill-in time!

Whatever happened to Garrett Sabelhaus? Didn't Mark Amazon refer to him as the future? I missed James' broadcast but will definitely make a point of giving him a listen.

Well - speak of James Rapien. He's on with Chick covering wide raging topics during the lull before the superbowl. I look at this as just a warm-up to topics they are stronger in. (ha ....sports)

Breaking...Dan Hoard on Reds Post Game. Always wondered how he maintained both Bengals & Bearcats broadcast schedules. Pro broadcaster - have no prob. hearing him during Reds season as well.

Garett found employment in another field. He left on good terms with iHeart. James is being groomed as the young up-and-comer.

That's good to know. I liked Garrett on Extra innings. Radio is a cut throat business. I am still unsure why Dan Hoard is talking Bengals when the show is called extra innings. He needs to talk baseball only.

Dan might be wearing too many hats? Or maybe he would rather talk Bengals?

Speaking of baseball...how about asking the powers that be to bring back "The Banana Phone"? Rain delays can make for boring radio sometimes and the banana phone was some comic relief that made it a little more interesting. Some of the calls may have annoyed Marty...but it was almost worth tuning in to to hear how he "fielded" the callers who may have had a few too many...

Here is the theme song for those who need it...

I agree listening to Marty banter back and forth with some of those caller who had to much to drink were more entertaining than the game itself. They should bring back the Banana Phone next season. Hoard should talk only Reds baseball after the game. Love the Banana theme song!

Just one of the things that has been gradually cut back the past few years as Marty gets older. Still great, but it's obvious that he's scaling back. Takes quite a few games off (more power to him; MLB is a grueling schedule) and handed off post-game responsibilities as well. I will say this ... for 75, the guy still seems to have quite a lot of energy, and I have to hand it to him for going as strong as he has for this long.

Jim is a good guy. Maybe he could be retained to call something in addition to NKU games? Any thoughts?

Maybe he'll come back in the Bengals booth when Dan Hoard replaces Marty at some point in the (hopefully distant) future.

Good idea - Kelch would prob. want something in the area. Reds can start shuffling announcers all they want - who replaces Marty will be a TOUGH call. Good luck with that. (BIG Marty fan - great pipes & diction - painting the picture - not to mention his interplay with other announcers etc.) I vote big NO to banana phone.
