Baseball Next For NBC Sports?

There could be baseball on the horizon as well. As NBC looks to add compelling content to its NBC Sports Network, ESPN’s deal with Major League Baseball ends in 2013. Lazarus, who did deals to carry Atlanta Braves baseball at Turner Broadcasting for years, called baseball a premiere property and one that would eat a lot of innings to help fill the schedule of a 24-hour, 52 week sports networks.

Late night full-game replays of their live events would do the same - and kick some infomercial crap to the curb. NBCSN will not be a pure 24-hour network now or ever unless and untl they do.

(Not that I wouldn't mind a bit more hardball on the screen)

The article doesn't mention FOX's rights also end in 2013. So that could mean something in the works for NBC broadcast also.

I doubt ESPN wants to give up baseball so the cable rights will be a hard to grab as Im sure ESPN wants back into the postseason.

Getting back to the broadcast networks I feel if NBC really wants that deal they will try their best to get. They already got play by play annoucers to use.

Yes Al Michaels and Bob Costas who also works Baseball Games on MLB Network.
They might want NBA and WNBA to.
ESPN can't get rid of Baseball Tonight like they got rid of NHL Tonight and shouldn't have that's know on NHL Network and need to add Baseball Coast to Coast on Tuesday's.

NBA wouldn't work on NBC broadcast due to Sunday Night Football. Could work on NBC Sports Network on nights during the week they aren't broadcasting an NHL game.

Baseball Coast to Coast would be a great show for ESPN to have. I can't think of what MLB Network's live in look of games is called.

Baseball 2014:
NBC
Sunday Afternoon Baseball - exclusive game
ALCS or NLCS (switch with TBS every year)
World Series

ESPN
Sunday Night Baseball - exclusive game
Wednesday Night Baseball
Home Run Derby
ALDS or NLDS (switch with NBC Sports Network every year)

NBC Sports Network
Monday Night Baseball - exclusive game
ALDS or NLDS (switch with ESPN every year)

TBS
Saturday Afternoon Baseball - exclusive game
All Star Game
ALCS or NLCS (switch with NBC every year)

MLB Network
Thursday Night Baseball
(and speical games shown from regional sports network)

Why not? No one is saying that the next NBA deal would have to include a Sunday afternoon package like currently airs on ABC.

Regarding your baseball suggestions: when you say "exclusive" game, what do you mean exactly? I don't think MLB's teams would be happy with a deal that gave NBC/ESPN/NBCSN/TBS exclusive windows four days a week where none of the RSNs could telecast a game.

i was thinking this same thing today remembering when NBC had the playoff games back in the 90's

Meaning only that one network can broadcast that game. For example, say NBC wants to broadcast the Yankees at Red Sox for Sunday Afternoon Baseball. Neither of the teams regional sports networks meaning NESN or YES would be able to broadcast the game.

As for NBA, NBC could always do a Saturday package, but then NBC wouldn't be able to broadcast NBA on one Saturday due to NFL Playoffs.

Not necessarily. Remember that NBC will be losing a Wild Card Saturday game under the recently extended NFL contract, and they'll have one game on Divisional weekend. In the case of a 4:30 PM ET NFL game, NBC could schedule a 1-4 PM ET window for the NBA.

If a broadcast deal is made with NBC, then they would have to carry the World Series.
I think that NBC is skeptical to the idea because of the start of Sunday Night Football and because they want to re-energize primetime. But seeing how low primetime is, it might be in their best interests to air as much sports as they can.

Yes RSN should also be able to broadcast Games even if ESPN or so on is doing like Yankes versus Dodgers.
ABC can have Saturday Nights for Baseball Game and every other year show All-Star Game and World Series.
MLB Network can have Live Game with it's own crew also on Tuesdays.
ESPN can have DH back on Wednesdays and Afternoon Game back to and also on Mondays.
NBCSP can have Friday Nights.

well, I just checked Wikipedia, and Joe Garagiola is still alive...

He's been a part-time (mostly weekend home games) analyst for the Diamondbacks on FSN Arizona for several years. He missed the 2010 season due to health issues, but was back last year.

I'm glad to hear he still has a hand in the game at age 85.
My memories of nationally televised baseball are mostly of Joe and Tony Kubek.

Also the very wild and quirky first-year ABC team of Warner Wolf, Bob Uecker and
"The Gunner", Bob Prince.

So you wouldn't let ESPN have Sunday Night exclusive or the broadcast network that will broadcast Saturday Afternoon or Sunday Afternoon exclusive?

I also don't see NBC Sports Network going after a Friday Night deal. Isn't worth the money. Just keep that to the MLB Network.

Also who are you giving Home Run Derby, ALDS, NLDS, ALCS, NLCS to?

Yes the still show the Game on ESPN but if the Yankees are part of it Yes Network needs to be allowed to.
Playoffs ESPN/MLB Network/NBCSP and TBS OR CBS Sports Network.

Not so sure about MLB Playoffs on MLB Network or CBS Sports Network as both are on digital. On my cable I have to pay extra if I want to get CBS Sports Network as its in a sports pack on Time Warner Cable. Also I don't really think CBS Sports in general wants MLB, only baseball I believe they show is college ball on CBS Sports Network.
