Baseball Playoffs

Did KESN carry the MLB on ESPN Radio broadcast of today's Rangers/Rays game? Or did The Fan "protect" the local broadcast?

Both stations carried it. ESPN had the national coverage, and the Fan had the local..

I wonder if The Fan/Rangers gave KESN permission to carry it. If I remember correctly, the local station can block the network radio broadcast.

I believe ESPN can feed it nationally, even into teams' home markets. I know WEPN (ESPN 1050) in NYC has been carrying Yankees postseason coverage from ESPN for years against the local broadcast on WCBS (880).

The rules must be different between regular season and post season. I know the local rights holder can block ESPN's national feed of Sunday Night Baseball. About 4-5 years ago The Rangers/KRLD did allow KESN to carry a Sunday Night Baseball broadcast. ESPN can be granted a one-time waiver to send the game into a local market.

Did the KRLD-FM send the game out to the Texas Rangers Radio Network?

I guess not....

From WikiPedia:

ESPN Radio holds exclusive rights to the All-Star Game. The postseason (including the Division Series, League Championship Series and World Series) is a semi-exclusive arrangement. The participating teams' flagship stations are allowed to air play-by-play using their own announcers and production. The national ESPN Radio feed may, however, be carried live on another station in those markets as well. If affiliate stations on the teams' radio networks wish to carry coverage of postseason games they must use the national feed.

Didn't realize the flags were the only stations were carrying postseason games. I was under the impression (wrongly, I guess) that affiliates could carry the team's feed up to the World Series, when they have to air ESPN. Sucks that listeners beyond DFW can't hear Nadel and Barnett without making special efforts to do so.

I believe that airing games only on the flagship applies just during the World Series (there was a lengthy discussion a couple of year ago about this on the Boston board). The first two ALDS games involving the Rangers have been on the network, KEBC 1340 in Oklahoma City has carried those games.

Did KESN preempt the Rockets/Mavericks preseason game for the ALCS game on Oct. 22?

Most (if not all) playoff games that weren't aired on KESN were shifted to KAAM this season. Many of the weekday/night ALCS games that aired on 105.3 were also carried on KRLD-AM.

I'm wondering if they will be able to air World Series games on AM & FM? I'm guessing that MLB will make the Rangers adhere to their pre-established flagships of KRLD-FM during the week, KRLD-AM during weekends.

I remember a few years ago, a lengthy thread about this on the Boston board when the Red Socks reached the WS.

I know one game of the ALCS was simulcast on KRLD AM/FM Im sure they will prolly do it for the WS unless there are UT/NASCAR/AGGIE/Cowboys conflicts.

The KRLD/Texas Rangers Radio Network was in play for the pre game show, but for the in-game broadcast it was the AM/FM simulcast. Im sure the network probably will pick up the post game show.

I noticed Nadel said "KRLD and 105.3 The Fan" in game, so I wondered if 1080 also was carrying the Series.

That's what I said.
