Baseball's Dave Parker, 74

Here is an Obit that includes the time Dave Parker was with the Oakland A's in the 1980's before he went to the Brewers, Angel's and Blue Jay's. Later became a coach and hitting instructor with the Pirates, Cardinals and Angels.

After his time with the A’s, Parker spent a season with the Milwaukee Brewers as a designated hitter. He played his last season in 1991, where he served as a designated hitter for the then-California Angels and the Toronto Blue Jays.

Parker retired at the end of the 1991 baseball season, and thereafter served as a coach for the Angels and the St. Louis Cardinals, and as a hitting instructor for the Pirates.

Parker was the first player I remember Curt Gowdy describing as a "five-tool player." He hit for average and power, was very fast for a big man, and could track down fly balls and make strong accurate throws afterward. For fans in American League markets like mine, those Saturday Games of the Week were always a treat. The Pirates, Reds and Dodgers, especially, were featured often and the weekly game was usually the only time I'd get to see Parker, Willie Stargell, Pete Rose, Steve Garvey and other greats of the National League on TV until the postseason began. Of course, all that changed -- first with national cable telecasts starting in the '80s, then with interleague play in the '90s.
