Baseball's Pete Rose Dies at 83

Rose was no doubt an outstanding player. He tarnished his legacy when he bet on baseball while he was a manager.
Pro sports used to distance themselves from gambling, but that is no longer true. I wonder if a lifetime ban would be given for the same offenses today. Sports is entertainment and big business. The insane amount of money that is generated today makes it fair to question "the integrity of the games"...

In 2018 I met him very briefly at one of his "an Evening with Pete Rose" tour stops. There were only a few dozen people there in a theater with seating for a thousand. I think the end of his life was sad, as he was rumored to have spent his fortune, and embarked on these tours just to get by. He was still pretty sharp at the time, but didn't seem to get around very well.

Apparently he was still doing these, with dates scheduled in Elkhart, IN and Akron, OH in November.
