I realize these are long odds, but I have to try.
I also realize some unfocussed enquiries about local stations' histories have upset regular frequenters of this precinct. Nevertheless I feel I must try.
Back in the 1940's or early '50's I heard a deejay show on KOL 1300 back when the station really was officially named by those three heritage calls. The show in question has outlived most other things in my rapidly fading memory. It was a 2 or 3 hour afternoon block called Bass (as in 'Base") Harris' House of Joy.
Bass Harris sounded African-American to even these then-youthful ears, and he divided his program into (alert the political correct police) 'colored-room' quarter hours. The blue room would feature one recording artist, the next segment might be from the green room with another singer, and so on. I can't remember the names of any of the artists, but they must have been (for the most part) mainstream music folks because I was not much for r & b or jazz recordings, and I wouldn't have stayed put for any of the wilder swing music.
I know there won't be many post-75 year olds hanging out here, but on the off-chance you may have an uncle or other family member with intact faculties to whom you may refer, I just thought I couldn't rest without trying.
While we're at it, is there any trace of a daily morning quarter-hour on KOMO presided over by Bob Nichols I think his name was?
It was the only place I knew of to get the latest radio and show biz news. I remember it listed in some newspaper grids from the 40's as running at 7:30 am on KOMO.
