Bass Music!!!

What happened to bass music? This sound was big in Atlanta and Miami in the 90s and early 2000s. Artist like Uncle Luke, Uncle Al, 2 Live Crew, Kilo,95 South and 69 Boys were just a few artist that were guaranteed to get a party started. This Saturday here in ATL, Jermaine Dupri is throwing a SoSo Def Reunion concert along with all of the Bass Allstars!!!! I also ran across Miami's 99 JAMZ mixing classic bass music every Saturday at 12 noon for anyone that's interested!!!

Ironically, I was just listening to MC Shy D today... You may enjoy listening to our lunch mix on Thursday from 12-12:30 CST. Thursday is Throwback Thursday, so the mix is all Throwbacks. We do bass, etc...

Dope. Also remember hearing "My Boo" by Ghost Town DJ's in heavy rotation on Hot 97.5 in ATL in 1996/1997. Miss that sound.

I actually set that stream up. We started a local ISP right when the Internet was taking off. I remember setting up the real audio encoders... Wow, that was a long time ago.

I still program the station. We're little guys, but we do well. Typically around a 20 share in Arbitron.

Our mixes are as follows:

M-F, 12n-12:30... 8P-8:30P
Sat, 8p-12mn
Sun, 6P-6:30P

Chris, that had to be around the year of 2000 I believe. I wias still in high school working at TJ Maxx lol. Good too see a programmer actually interacting on the convo on this board. Being in Louisiana, does your station play a lot of New Orleans Bounce music?

We did, but it has really fallen off in popularity in this area over the past year or so. I am in Northeast LA, so NO is about 4 hours from here.

We do some bounce sets in the mix sometimes, but it is mostly limited to the bounce remixes some of the underground DJ's do to regular songs.

It was pretty good, although almost half of what was played wasn't bass music. Some of the new modern stuff thrown in didn't have traditional bass beats. They could've easily thrown in "girls run the world" by Beyonce with some of the type of songs that were played. They also kept it pretty mainstream and didn't go too deep into the bass classics.

As far as personal bass memory favorites go:
For some reason I've really been loving and playing Kilo's "show me love" and Raheem The Dream "The most beautiful girl in the world" on repeat these past few weeks. Not sure why. Still waiting for Raheem The Dream to release his new album! I heard a lot of the tracks but for some reason the advertised album never materializes. I've been waiting over a year.
