Hello everyone,

What format holes are in Baton Rouge? If you could do any format that you feel would be strong in that growing city, what would it be?

Post like crazy, be serious, but not idea is a dumb idea.

Oldies, Jazz, FM Talk, Christian Rock?

I'm writing from Tennessee and I'm curious

Thanks!

I thought Oldies didn't due too well in BR and that's why it went and became Rock 93.7 (which has since moved to become Red at 93.7 and if they don't get some numbers up will be something else 93.7 soon judging back the track record at that frequency)

Smooth Jazz hasn't been done in BR as far as I'm aware of commercially BUT giving the track record in other markets close by, It hasn't survived too well

Americana and some others are considerably niche formats just like one that has been coming up here in South Louisiana... Stations that play cajun/swamp pop/zydeco such as KLRZ and KBON.... Swamp pop is played on weekend mornings in the capital city but it being more than a niche program on a country station in Baton Rouge, Possibly not.

Would love to have a rock station that is heritage or mainstream playing new and classics (new as in stuff still on the charts) but last one went too active and failed to a alternative dualcast in the capital city (some of it was ratings/programming, some has been traced to a person at Citadel wanting to jump on the variety hits format).

But pretty much, I find Baton Rouge having the mainstream formats it wants at this time. If not, either stations from Lafayette or New Orleans is taking care of the need.

You could always be a blaser and get some formats working here in Houma/Thibodaux like active rock however :)

In terms of Baton Rouge, I think it has the oldies station that fits it: Country Legends 107.3.

If you're going to do oldies, you need to have a personality-driven station, and I don't know if a station or company in BR is willing to spend the money for that. Also, and this is not a slight on BR, but I don't think there is enough talent in the town to work that kind of format.

I wouldn't mind seeing something of a AAA station in BR or a straight up Jack format like the one in Jackson (though someone needs to tell the people who run that Jack in Jackson how to use a crossfade). Red 93.7 and Bayou 95.7 are close, but they are not a real Jack.

I was going to suggest a Jack format. And for those of us not technically-inclined, what's a crossfade? <P ID="signature">______________

It is the point at which a song is ending where you start the next song or event. It's easiest with a song that ends cold, it's hardest with a song that fades out, especially if the following song starts softly. A good human interface can do it well every time. An automation system presents challenges.
