Baton Rouge radio

Could someone give me a list of FM stations in the Baton Rouge market, even ones further away that I can pick up on my car radio? I am coming down from Kentucky to visit my family. I haven't been in a while and the radio dial has prob. changed a lot since I've been. Is 107.3 still hip-hop? j/w

Radio-locator.com would be your fastest place to get the info (though some of it may not be 100% correct)

(Im in Texas and get to the Red Stick area once in a while)

yes BR radio has changed... 107.3 flipped to classic country about a year or so ago.

Radio-locator does get dated but is about the most accurate short of paying for it from 100kwatts
Since 2000 That I am aware of:

Basically changes are :
92.3 flipped from a/c to "diva" a Rhythmic a/c (aimed at white women)
92.7 stayed religious but is now broadcasting EMF's "k-LOVE" format
93.7 went from oldies to rock to variety hits (mostly a rock lean)
94.1 has stayed hip hop last few years
96.1 is still a/c
98.1 is still classic rock
100.7 has stayed pretty much new country
101.5 stayed country
102.5 is still CHR
103.3 has gone from country to a/c to rhythmic a/c back to a/c
104.1 has gone from CHR to classic hits to CHR to Chr/urban to Releigous to rock (whew!)
104.5 went from urban to modern rock
104.9 went from country and oldies to modern rock
106.5 stayed rhythmic a/c
107.3 has gone from oldies to CHR/urban to classic country

The ones you can pick up by radio maybe better found in radio-locator as depending upon what part of EBR you are in, what you can catch (as some parts can hear New Orleans stations, across town Lafayette comes in like a local.. and by LSU you can hear Cenla Broadcasting (formally clear channel's) 3 stations from Alexandria almost all the time

Hope this helps

To expand: not much if anything has changed on the non-comm end of the band:

88.5 still all-Swaggart all-the-time
89.3 some time back WRKF dropped daytime local classical for NPR network talk shows, lost some of their charm IMO. BR's only HD radio station.
89.7/91.5 still Rev. Kennedy's ministry
90.3 still smoooooooooth jazz
91.1 still college radio (which is not a bad thing, I find the current iteration mostly listenable)

Some other signals of note:

BR LPFM 94.9 is now gospel
BR LPFM 96.9 is a rare catch, I have not heard them on the air in a year of trying.
Lafayette's 107.9 is now full power on the 99.1/99.1 tower near Breaux Bridge, puts a good hip hop signal into Baton Rouge. 99.1 and 99.9 still the same (country and ac).
SLU's 90.9 playing less AAA in the daytime.
Hammond's 107.1 now country "Kajun 107". I know that they have been that for a while, but having worked at the original Kajun 103 it's still strange to hear WHMD claim it.
Hammond has an LPFM at 107.9. Every time that I've listened all I have heard is ambient "beep-beep tinkle-tinkle" music.

I have buried the lead: as you pass across I-12, be sure to scan the New Orleans signals. Depending long you have been away, you'll be challenged to find what's still the same.

And surely your folks have prepared you for the unGodly amount of traffic we now face post-Katrina.

The food here is still the best around :) Please drive safe, let us know your impressions, and welcome home.

Thanks for the info. RFLA, Dr. T., and CW....and yes I can't wait for the amazing food! I remember the days when 100.7 used to be "Tiger Country," (101.5 is the same) and 103.3 used to be "Cat Country!" Good times. So there's no more oldies stations in BR anymore? I guess KOOL 93.7 was the last one. I'm not sure but I think there is still one on AM on like 1590 or something. I guess no one likes oldies down there anymore. There's just been so many changes...some good...some bad ---since I've been there last. I just can't believe 104.1 out of N.O. doesn't have the "original" WRNO programming! That sucks. Thanks again!

food is great down here. the saints are great. the people are great..the radio..is....not so great ;D

On the 104 thing, there is no new rock station in New Orleans and with RNO flipping to news and another classic rocker in town down there, they decided to go with the path of least resistance apparently

1590 does play some oldies, but has gone to a "full service" style station with talk during most of the day when I've tuned in. plus with the signal quality being questionable outside the main service area. (that and they are now calling themselves "supertalk KKAY" Religious on Sunday's if I remember.

But nope, only WTGG 96.5 out of Amite and WTIX 94.3 out of New Orleans are the only stations doing oldies in SE Louisiana as far as I know (and WTIX is more of a oldies/classic hits mix playing more of the owners preferences to oldies than what a normal oldies station would- more obscure tracks at times)

WHMD is claiming KAJUN 103?? I thought that signal belonged to the former WTGI, which was sold in 1983 by Ron Strother. I wonder what Strother is doing these days?

Yeah KDDK was granted a CP to move from Franklin (St. Mary Parish) to Addis. and apparently it has licensed with the FCC in Addis as a Class A (6kw @328 ft). Reports from Baton rouge have it running the format that it was running in Franklin before moving which was a Nostalgia/Adult standards format albeit basically being lost by the Livingston Parish line

To quote on the format from Baton Rouge Business report:
With a transmitter of just 6,000 watts, the station is not very powerful and will likely reach just a fraction of the local listening audience. But it’s only going after a small targeted market—affluent older listeners who are ignored by the corporate chains that favor younger demos with pop, rock, country and rap.
