Battenfield show on WRKO? (after Howie?)

Free Republic regular was listening to Tom and Todd and heard Joe Battenfield
say something about maybe doing an RKO show after Howie? I hadn't seen/heard and don't know if they were joking or serious, etc. but you wonder if they'd at least put a show on at 7 pm for next couple months at least--could cover election, etc.

Will poke around to see if there's something to this. Also I wonder if maybe RKO would expand
the noon business show and shift Manning to nights but who knows.

not a chance

1) it would would cost money, 2) Savage gets decent ratings for minimal cost. 3) too many preemptions for programming(sports) contractually obligated to run, but displaced from 850.
4) signal sucks after dark, the PPM's won't see enough listeners to generate the required ad revenue to support it. 5) WBZ owns the talk market at night IMHO.

But Entercom has done stupid things before

I was thinking that too but:

--1) maybe not much money. Just lay off someone else from the Big Show :)
OR Bye bye Charlie,
more money talk at noon?
--2) True re: ratings and cost for Savage
--3) Red Sox season over soon, though there may be conflicts with some baseball playoffs
and Celts pre-season. But soon enough Celts stick to 850 and they don't have Revs anymore.
Maybe some college sports bumps though.
--4) not for me,living in Beverly and working in N. Reading. Last night at work I could actually
hear Mon. Night Football fairly clearly on 680. This is why I was upset that Sox went to 850

---5) True, Rea, but they want a piece of the pie?
Stupid things? yes.

This may only be temp.? Maybe till just after the election. Again I don't know this for sure
but the guy was half-listening and thought he heard it

In fact he just posted:
>>No I don’t think he was joking, he was asking todd and the felon to feed him info about the elections, so maybe it is just a temp thing to cover the elections, I wasn’t paying that much attention because I was changing stations and caught less than a minute of the conversation. I’m pretty sure he said he’d be on after Howie that’s why I’m wondering what will happen to Savage or Doyle.
(rockabyebaby)

His original post:

>>I was channel surfing this a.m and I thought I heard Joe Battenfeld on RKO saying something to todd and the felon about getting his own show on RKO after Howie - did anyone else hear this?? I didn’t stick around long enough to find out when it starts and if he will be replacing Savage or if Savage will move into the 10 -1 time slot replacing Jerry Doyle. I don’t see anything on the RKO website.

now i realize this is the radio section but, is fox25 out of money it seems as though they have been letting people go alot lately, even small roles are being cut down maybe its just me.

If they ever let VB go maybe he could wind up with Howie again. More recently VB has done fill ins for Severin at WTKK, and some appearance on McPhee's show, rather than with Howie. VB did show up for the chowderfest in Ipswich (or was it the GOP unity dinner) and Howie swiped his lobster roll,
it was said.

Battenfield WRKO? Life after Fox 25

It's not you. Check the New England TV board. IMO Fox 25 is setting up to crash and burn. Their "new" expanded morning news 4:30-10AM is terrible. The formula of letting people go (both talent and staff) and doing more on-air with fewer people is a set up for disaster. Watching it now is drudgery. Even VB has lost his edge. Not as spontaneous and funny as he used to be. VB may be looking around for some radio place to go when they pull the plug on the Fox morning news or decide not to renew his contract.

Maybe they are getting ready to sell the station and want to get their bottom line down low. The latest, not renewing Battenfield is probably not the end. Their show director left partially due to the lack of support (no assistant dir, no Tech Dir on a switcher and etc and fewer staff) They didn't replace him. Instead they took three other people already there and are rotating them to direct the show. And the director does everything because the station is "computerized". Notice their on-air staff has shrunk while they add an hour and a half more show. No more Doug Mehan, No more 3rd anchor (Anquinet Jamison) no more Jim Armstrong and on and on. And talk about repetitive The same stories and script done over and over and over. Pitiful.

We've seen this kind of cutting down in radio stations. taking a good show then getting rid of the elements that made it great until it bombs. TV is no different. Let's take a pool on when Fox 25 morning news will go the same way. Too bad.

OK thought change.... With Howie leaving in what 2012(?) and Battenfeld getting beached from WFXT, Maybe WRKO will use him as a fill in host for Howie's frequent vacations, and groom him as a replacement for when Howie goes to W??? when his contract expires.

BTW did anyone catch the dig HC made about MA Judges the other day when he torpedoed the Judges nomination before the Governor's Council? He made reference to being forced to work 5 years .... yada yada yada, but basically admitted he has declared war on the MA Judiciary.

Yesterday on the Big Show, Butch Stearns plugged Battenfeld's new show and made a very disparaging remark about FOX 25. He called them back-stabbers or something to that effect. Up until now he had not had anything negative to say about them.

All I can say is that they better not get rid of Maria. I don't care what she says, I just enjoy watching her say it.

News Corp has to ecomomize on its day-to-day operations so it can donate a million dollars to the Republican Gubernators Association and another million dollars to the US Chamber of Commerce.

While George Soros funds all the other networks :) I have to laugh at the recent Politco poll that said how irrelevant MSNBC is in terms of trust and ratings. The good news: they modeled themselves after talk radio. The bad news: the talk radio was Air America...

Disparaging remarks about Fox 25 under these circumstances is foretelling the inevitable. Sterns and Battenfield are finding new homes on radio. Maria could be one of the next to go or be asked to take a pay cut if she hasn't taken one already (as other Fox 25 talent have). You better roll your DVR or VCR on her because who knows how long she'll last at Fox 25. And she may not be positioned to do radio like political commentator Battenfield or sports guy Sterns are.

From what I hear, Since Fox 25 morning news expanded to 5 1/2 hours their ratings have taken a nose dive. Too bad. What radio place might be a good fit for Maria?

Too bad that Howie had declared war on English comprehension and didn't understand his own contract. Maybe he was absent that day in Chapel Hill.

Having the market's number one proponent of others taking personal responsibility for their own actions bemoaning the fact that the courts didn't save him from his own ineptitude does show that God has a sense of irony.

Luckily for Howie, when this current contract is up, he won't have to worry about anyone forcing him to work for five years.

Regards,
TSB
