Re: I Hope Season Two Is Better

Don’t get me wrong, I think the new Galactica series far surpasses the original one. What I found disappointing is the last few episodes of season one.

The Cylons, created by man, kills billions of humans and continue to chase them across the stars trying to eliminate the remaining 48,000 survivors. YET, the Cylons are trying to mate with humans (Helo and Sharon)

It doesn’t make any sense to me. Sounds more like a rip off of the Star Trek Borg characters.

Uh...
Exactly how are they a rip-off of the Borg? I don't recall any of the borg (save for 7 of 9) ever displaying any emotion, or religion.

As for the overall story, those of us who were old enough to remember the orignal series know that this was the original concept, written in the 70's, long before the folks at Paramount invented the Borg. The difference is the twist of the Cylons looking like humans and being sentient. But this was necessary, otherwise Galactica would have looked like another infamous sci-fi show, which just ended a very short 4 year run...

The Borg were half human/half machines. This is where I see the simularities between the Cylons on the new BTG and the Borg. In the 1970s series, the Cylons were just machines created by a race of lizzards.

I mean what's the deal with this Cylon/Human baby that Number 6 talks about? And Sharon being pregnant. The concept of the Cylons, I thought, were to destroy humanity. Now they are trying to breed with them?

As for the start of the second season, I must admit it was a good episode. It gave viewers an idea how Adama and Tigh met and became friends. And now the Cylons are about to board the Galactica and try to take it over.

Remember that Ronald D. Moore(former ST:TNG writer) wrote the BG mini-series script.
______________

One of Richard Hatch's BG novels involved cylon centurions invading the Galactica and a major shootout followed. His novles were intended as a continuation of the original series set 25 years/yahrens after the final episode("The Hand Of God"). I'm thinking Hatch might have been contributuing ideas to the writing staff since he failed in getting BG:The Second Coming into production. He spent money out of his own pocket to produce a trailer which featured John Colicos(in his last appearence on film) reprising his role as Baltar. I enjoyed the mini-series and season one, but I also would have liked to have seen a continuation of the original possibly as a feature film(ala Star Trek:The Motion Picture), but we can't have everything, can we? I'm looking forward to seeing what's in store for this season.
______________
