Bay Area Backroads moves to NBC

It's kind of hard to believe but another piece of KRON is now gone. The Bay Area Backroads program series that originated on KRON has now moved with Doug McConnnel over to KNTV. This program aired almost every Saturday and Sunday around 6PM on KRON.

You kind of wonder what will be next....

Bay Area Backroads on KRON (1984-2008) I wonder when did they move Backroads to KNTV?

It hasn't moved to KNTV yet. In fact, I'm wondering if Newschannel4SF has good information. There is nothing on the 'NBC Bay Area' website about the show, but the KRON website still lists the show, and has a link. That may mean nothing - I'm continually amazed at how slow websites are to add new information, and how often they forget to delete old links.

There was a promo on this past Sunday on KNTV announcing the show but under a new name with Doug McConnnel as host. KRON will still run back episodes of Bay Area Backroads periodically.
 
I didn't see the promo, but heard it from my living room in the kitchen on Saturday. Just heard the part of Doug McConnell coming to NBC Bay Area. I thought I heard the same theme song as well!

I saw Doug McConnnel on KQED doing Backroads one time. PBS got him

The mistake is understandable - but McConnell's new KQED show is called Open Road. Similar idea, but different production. Bay Area Backroads is out of production. KRON (Young Broadcasting) still owns the right to Backroads - but they put the show on "production hiatus" last year.

This is comparable to Young Broadcasting being on 'profit hiatus.' Both sound temporary, but are much more likely to be permanent.
