Bay Area Radio History Book

I've got a must-read for lovers of radio history. Maybe I should say must-look. It's "Bay Area Radio," from Arcadia, the publisher of those softcover books that specialize in photo histories of neighborhoods, regions and cultural institutions

Arcadia Publishing is quite the oddity. Many publishers specialize in "evergreens", that is, books they can publish over and over again that don't need to be updated, but what makes Arcadia unique is the very limited interest areas they pursue. One thing that makes them successful is that they don't have to spend any money on design; the designs are identical whether they're talking about the Italians of Oakland or the History of WLS. Here's a link to their broadcast offerings: http://www.arcadiapublishing.com/theme/Broadcasting

The photo on SFGate shows a unique photo of a KGO/KPO/Chronicle van. It's the first time I'd ever seen the Chronicle associated with KGO. KPO, sure, the Chronicle once owned it. But KGO? They were owned by GE and then sold to NBC. How'd the Chron get involved in this?

Glad to know they are successful - I assumed they were. Though book stores are dying, I have notice that you'll find Arcadia's books in most book stores, and in touristy gift shops in almost any city in the country - at least the ones I have visited.

We bought their book on Bernal Heights, naturally - since we live there.
