Bay Area Radio Museum Returns...

Hello, everyone!

As many of you know, I recently decided to step away from the nearly fulltime job of working on the Bay Area Radio Museum & Hall of Fame, largely due to time issues -- the project was taking up nearly all my spare time, seven days a week -- and because it was becoming a real drain on my personal finances.

In five years of working on the museum project, I received a lot of encouragement, but only a limited amount of volunteer and financial support.

In the wake of my announcement and the shutting down of the BARM/BARHOF website, a bunch of my great friends -- including Steve Kushman and Mike Adams at the California Historical Radio Society, Ben Fong-Torres, and Darryl Compton and Peter Cleaveland at Broadcast Legends, among others -- let me know that this project is vital and important, and that it was worth keeping alive.

We've received donations from quite a few people, which was tremendous, but I also received a call from Steve Kushman saying that CHRS was ready, willing and able to adopt the museum and make it a major component of their organization. Honestly, I couldn't think of a better fit than having BARM and BARHOF as part of CHRS and the KRE restoration project.

With the radio museum under CHRS's wing, we now have a skilled, dedicated and passionate group of volunteers to help to digitize the extensive BARM archives, as well as a place to house the Hall of Fame and a gallery to exhibit the wonderful items we've collected over the years.

The BayAreaRadio.org website is still bumping along, but I will continue working on it as much as possible. If you are interested in working on this project, please join CHRS at http://californiahistoricalradio.com or by calling 415-821-9800 and let Steve know you want to help out.

My thanks to all of you that have expressed your support and concern over the past few months -- I truly appreciate it!

Honestly, I knew a lot of people appreciated and enjoyed the museum archives, but never as much as after the announcement that I wouldn't be continuing it. I was also pretty burned out after the latest BARHOF celebration, which was a lot of work, was a great success ... and left me feeling miserable.

On the website front, one of the issues was bandwidth, and the high cost. Our hosting company recently (after I'd pulled all the audio from the site to save a few bucks, of course) changed its policy and went with unlimited downstream at no additional charge, which is a rare and amazing thing. They may change their policy again in a month or a year, and the server may be slow, but you really can't beat free under these conditions.

The audio files -- about 6,385,256,179 of them, by conservative estimate -- are nearly all loaded up to the website, and should now be available once again for your enjoyment.

David - we really (really) appreciate what you have done with BARM and BARHOF. I'm also glad you're posting here again.

If you are taking contributions, I would be happy to help. I think you have my email. Welcome back.
