Bay Area Radio Predictions for 2010

Here is how I see Bay Area Radio in 2010

1. Major staff shake-up at Clear Channel San Jose

2. KYLD Midday Jock Dreena Gonzalez will become a guest host of the
syndicated Country music radio show "AfterMidnite"

3 San Francisco will get a second Country music station

4. Adult Standards will return to Bay Area radio

5. KBAY will flip to CHR and KSJO will flip to Soft Rock with the name Sunny 92-3!

That's my predictions, now what are yours?

1. Alice, The Band or Live 105 goes 60's/70's Classic Pop/Hits (like KRTH or WCBS)

2. 92.7/The Rev goes back to Dance

3. The Wolf continues to climb in the ratings

4. KGO get's an FM signal

5. Movin 99.7 continues its ratings ascent

Or...None of the above!

1. 92.7 goes classic hip hop, all 90's hits or jack fm
2. the wolf continues to drop in the ratings
3. Alice or the band goes classic hits

1. KBAY will move back up to San Francisco and become Bay Country and move into one of the empty studios on Battery.
2. Alice will become Ralph and program to Muni Buss's only.
3. Larry Wilson will buy 610 AM and turn it back to KFRC and hire Kenny from Concord to program it.
4. Frank Dill will replace Don Bleu on Star 101 when Don goes to mornings on KGO.
5. Mike Preston will be inducted into the Bay Area Hall of Fame.

1. Live 105 ratings will increase.

2. Movin 99.7 ratings will continue to climb.

3. 92.7 The Rev will continue to suck

4. More swings of the axe at Clear Channel SF and SJ.

5. Free FM will return to the Bay :)

Oh come on! Get real! What ... have you got "inside info" on that one? Is this another one of those "word on the street is" things? Do you have a friend whose cousin is the next-door neighbor of the part-time weekend board op at KOIT? Seriously, how do rumors like this get started?

I, for one, will tune in on December 26 just to see how wrong you are about this one, KIFR!

No secret. You have to be one of those special HD2 "insiders" like me. Lite Rock has temporarily knocked Oldies off of KOIT HD2, but they keep repeating Lori Sanders' announcement that Lite Rock will be back to HD1 soon, though she doesn't give an exact date. Let the rampant and useless speculation begin...

I would like to see KIOI 101.3 flip to a 60s 70s format, and with out further A-DOO, we know that Bobby Ocean would be the best choice for a 5-10 slot, and John Mack Flanagan, afternoon drive 2-6, Radio would come alive again, afternoons would be GREAT, and i would cancel Sirius/XM immediatly. Kenny in Concord

KENNY WRITES:
"and i would cancel Sirius/XM immediatly. Kenny in Concord"

MIKE RESPONDS:
I cancelled my internet radio subscripton long ago. Too expensive and the olides and Nostalgia formats lacked badly (Sirius).

I have found MUCH BETTER radio stations for free on the internet.

KCEE 690 = "Fourty years of Favorites"
KZQZ 1340 = 50's & 60's oldies with LIVE Dee Jays.

Mike

KYA and KEWB battle for TOP 40 dominance until KFRC 610 whacks them both?

How about KDFC has a drop in its ratings for classical music? could that be a prediction.

...and becomes Q102....uh-oh (ducking and running)

KDFC 102 will become Classic hits for the Bay Area and will be like KRTH in LA, KCCL 92.1 in Sacramento, KABX 97.5,KHIT 107.1, KJWL 99.3 in Fresno and MAX-FM 96.5 in Bakersfield, every California Major Market has a Classic Hit format, Except The Bay Area, IT TIME FOR IT AM I RIGHT OR NOT.
Yes it would be great if Bobby Ocean was to program it, and it will be better than the more recent version on 106.9 KFRC.

Geesh, guys. My head explodes every time someone on this board proposes yet another station that would play some permutation on old music. You guys are splitting a diminishing number of hairs. Nearly every station that plays music in the Bay Area is already playing music that was originally released years ago. It is sooooooo sad that music made and released in 2009 gets so little air time. If you target listeners over the age of 25 you have no tolerance for anything current and you assume your audience has a similar fear. It is because you need validation on everything you play and your willingness to wait has never been penalized.

Chickens**t, risk-averse consultants advising weak-in-the knee ownership on test-worn, proven hits is a billion dollar industry, while no one in management has a clue what a hit sounds like unless it Joel Whitburn says so.

Time for someone to show some cojones and take a chance in 2010 on music made in 2010, not 1980.

Despite my humbug, I wish everyone on this board a Merry Christmas from the old school.

So what do you call the stuff that Movin, Wild and Rev play? For that matter, The Wolf?
