Bay Bridge closure - LIVE traffic coverage?

I wonder if the construction company gets some kind of 'bonus' for finishing the job ahead of time?!?!?

I know CalTrans typically gives bonuses for finishing early. That was the case when there were emergency repairs down south. In my mind, contractors working 24/7 could lead to safety issues.

I don't know the specifics of this work. Is this governed by the Bay Area Transit Authority? You would think the bay bridge is part of the state highway system.

Keeping this a radio topic, I noticed last night we pick up 98.1 quite well at my house. Of course we have an FM antenna 60 feet up a tree -and- I live at 4000'. ;D

All the bridges except the Golden Gate are owned and managed by Caltrans. The Golden Gate is separately owned and run by a special use district.

Where is your house? I recall that a number of San Franciso FMs, including 98.1 and 99.7 - come in quite clearly in and around the Yosemite Valley, which, IIRC - is due east of San Francisco.

My house is 7 miles east of Nevada City, at 4000' in elevation. Even though the house is on top of a mountain, we still need an outside antenna to reach over the western ridge. On a clear day, we see the Sutter Buttes and the Coastal Range.

We got a few inches of snow this morning. I see I-80 is closed going over Donner Summit.

BTW, I could definitely work in the city. I'd have a little apartment overlooking the bay, or maybe a boat in the marina...then go home to the mountains for the weekend. ;)

Sounds beautiful. Send me your address...I'm packing the car now. If I can find my chains, I'll be there by 2:00 AM with the wife and kids.

LOL! My wife might have something to say about that. ;)

It's a great place to live, until you can't get out because trees block the road, or you've been without power for a week. Of course a chain saw and a generator can take care of that. :)

Our local radio stations, KNCO and KVMR, do a pretty good job of covering local weather issues. Last winter was the worst in over 20 years.

On our emergency radio, we listened to KVMR broadcasting for many hours taking calls from listeners reporting downed trees, power lines, power outages, etc.

I love listening to KVMR during the Grass Valley "Father's Day" bluegrass festival. If I'm there I listen to it because I can't see all the performances and I like the interviews. When I'm not going I listen to the stream. They always do an excellent job with the festival.

I hope to go this year, given that a bunch of groups I don't often/ever see (Foghorn Stringband, Rocky Neck, etc) will be there this year.

You'd think I'd go, since I live here. I probably don't since my wife is not a big fan of bluegrass. I, however, love it. If I don't go this year, I should at least listen.

BTW, KVMR was looking for a new Chief Engineer. I'm sure there will be a lot of work building their new studios. It will be built along with a new backstage for the Nevada Theater (the oldest theater in CA).
