BBC America Moves Newscast To BBC World News

"BBC World News America," which used to air on BBC America, is moving to sister network BBC World News.

BBC World News America is not what US viewers want to watch.

No surprise it's leaving BBC America.

This must be a future development because I see BBC World News America listed all this week on BBC-America at 7pm E.T. Will BBC America drop news at 7pm altogether and only carry news in the morning from 5 to 8am E.T.? Not having an evening newscast on BBC America makes little sense when the BBC is so closely associated with quality news. Is the Discovery Network, the North American distributor of BBC programming, trying to dumb down BBC America fearing that Americans don't want quality? How about BBC Canada?

By the way, does anyone get both BBC World News and BBC America? The only cable systems I know of that carry BBC World News are Cablevision in New York/New Jersey and the cable franchise in San Juan, Puerto Rico, but neither has BBC America. Every other cable system I know of has only BBC America or carries neither.

It should be noted that BBC News airs in various day parts, and on weekends on NPR, which has become a very popular news source for Americans. They use BBC to supplement NPR's own news efforts, and if Congress is successful in de-funding public radio, BBC News could potentially be a bigger presence on NPR.

It's hardly a stretch to believe that enough Americans will watch BBC World News to keep it on the air.

That's a damn shame considering I actually watch that newscast. It's just another symbol of how simple minded some broadcasters perceive most Americans to be, but then again some Americans prove that notion to be true...

Sad but true.

Maybe the move is to entice cable systems to carry BBC World alongside BBC America.

After all, some cable systems (such as Bright House) are carrying BBC America on month-to-month contracts, and the BBC may use BBC World as ammo in future negotiations.

The reason is that more people watch BBC World News on PBS? Or is it more US viewers like to watch the Cable propaganda like Fox propaganda, MSNBC, CNN, HLN , CNBC, Bloomberg and Fox Business.

I wish Camcast here carried BBC World News. It'd be much more enjoyable than the four cable news channels with their talking-head (ranting-head?) opinion shows. I have no use for those.

The latter more than the former.

BBC America used to air BBC World News at 6:00 pm daily (not including the morning newscasts). It would be the same one airing on most PBS stations except for the commercial spots (of which PBS airs none).

WVIZ/25 here runs BBC World News at 11 PM weeknights...I hope they (or WNEO/45-WEAO/49) pick up the BBC World News America cast as well.

Of course, what I REALLY want is the return of Newsworld International, with more CBC content. :D And no, Keith Olbermann saying "eh?" on Current every so often won't be enough for me...

Amen and hallelujah.

Thank you very much, Al Gore. I am not inclined to forgive you for shutting down NWI for a ridiculous hobby channel which serves no apparent purpose other than feeding your ego. Current is to cable TV as Air America was to radio.

And what I really, really want is for BBC America to pick up Hu$tle (seasons five, six and seven).

I wouldn't mind having AlJazeera English either...I've been watching them online for their middle east coverage and they don't seem to be anti-American as some portray them to be.

That would certainly be feasible here in Denver as Comcast has TruTV on Channel 163 as well as Channel 71 for some weird reason (BBC America is on Channel 162)

But the bigger question though is would the satellite carriers carry BBC World?

Cheers :D

I get it via Mhz. Networks which is available via KBDI-DT 12.3 or Comcast Channel 253. But that's not 24/7 like the online channel is though

Cheers :D

Verizon FIOS carries BBC World. And like Al Jazeera, it's available online.

The first half of every hour on BBC World is the newscast and those newscasts are also shown on many public television stations (check your local listings). BBC America also carries several of the newscasts each day.

The second half of most hours is various feature segments. I find these far less interesting than the newscasts. BBC World is not really an all-news channel.

Verizon FiOS runs BBC America on 189 and BBC World News on 107. I believe it's on FiOS nationwide and on those channels. :)
