bbc radio

I've been hearing BBC radio at 555 or 556 khz the past few nights. ¿Any one know where it is from or am I the only one hearing it?

Haven't heard it yet, but you know, it would really help to know where you are!

Haven't seen it reported.

Neither frequency is a valid European channel. (the closest would be 558)

There's a 10kw station on 555 on St. Kitts in the Caribbean. My guess is that they relay the BBC overnight. (not unusual among stations down there)

Just curious, what kind of equipment are you using? I have some pretty nifty portables, but have yet to hear any stations at non standard frequencies.

I'm in Ottawa Canada, using a CC Radio plus. I to0k the radio outside the house last night and walked around with it to see if I was having some weird interference problem inside that was causing a short wave "spur". It's a legitimate signal. I tried tuning up to 558 which I know is an international frequency, and all I could hear was the splatter of something on 560. The signal definitely is at 555 Khz. When I t0ok the radio outside, the background house noise disappeared (obviously) but the station remained. It is the World Service.

Just came home and confirmed that it is inded ZIZ 555 from St. Kitts and Nevis. Thanks to w9wwl for pointing me in the right direction. I did get an ID right before it went to the BBC world service.

Wow, interesting!

Unfortunately, I have a local bible-thumper at 560 which will not permit me to check 555 with my own equipment.

While in palm beach i can hear some foreign station in the daytime. I don't know what the pattern is or the KW. I think its the little island not too far from there and sounded like it was owned by the british.

airing world service at night.

bermuda, i think.

More likely you heard the Bahamas on 810? I've heard that station through a fair part of Florida during the day. There are also Bahamanian stations on 1240 and 1540 but they're not heard as well. (on the other hand I have heard 1540 up here in Tennessee, which I can't say for 810)
