BBC to further reduce its workforce

Tavaziva's email to staff is mealy mouthed management Brit-speak for "you're not important to us any more and you're all fired in the New Year".

These cycles come and go. Big organizations like this will periodically cut unfashionable and unglamorous "back office" staff to "free up funds" for whatever their "core mission" is, and then they realize they don't have time to do the core work any more because everyone's having to do their own admin work, and hire back office staff again.

There's invariably an impression that the office staff in any big org are sitting around pushing paper unnecessarily and costing money for no reason, until they FAFO and fire them, and then find out what it was they were doing all day for the org.

Using the name of the great British computing pioneer Ada Lovelace for this plan is surely a cruel joke.

British government unveiled its new budget today. Haven’t seen any analysis on how the BBC funding is affected.
It isn't really linked. The BBC raises its funds through a separate fee charged to everyone who owns a TV set - the only link between the government and the BBC's funding is that they have to get the charter (which gives them the legal right to raise their funds) renewed every ten years. There's no line item in the government budget for the BBC - the BBC's money goes straight from licence payers to the BBC without passing through the government at all.
