BCAB Names Terry David Mulligan Broadcaster of the Year

BCAB Names Terry David Mulligan Broadcaster of the Year

By Glen Livingstone

Somewhat buried amongst all of the awards handed out was the news that Terry David Mulligan was named Broadcaster of the Year by the British Columbia Association of Broadcasters at its recent annual convention held in Vancouver.

It's a well deserved honour for the one-time RCMP officer whose career in radio began in 1964 at CKRD in Red Deer, Alberta.

A move to Vancouver followed and Terry was soon spinning the hits at the two Sixties Vancouver Top 40 rockers CFUN and CKLG. He became the program director for Canada's first underground station CKLG-FM when it switched from classical music to rock in 1967.

Terry's lengthly career highlights include stints hosting CBC television's music video series Good Rockin' Tonite and appearances on BCTV's innovative children's TV series Zig Zag.

For 8 years Terry hosted CBC Radio's Great Canadian Goldrush, and later, the nationally syndicated radio show Discumentary which originated at CFMI-FM (now Rock 101).

In 1985 he joined the Toronto-based MuchMusic where he created and hosted the long-running Much West segments from Vancouver while at the same time hosting Movie Television for Citytv.

While maintaining a full schedule with his radio work, Terry also found time to pick up acting roles in movies and televison series such as The Accused, The X-Files, Robson Arms, Hard Core Logo and the Fantastic Four.

Currently Terry helms two weekly radio shows on Alberta public radio station CKUA; Mulligan Stew, a two-hour music program, and Tasting Room Radio, a one-hour program that deals with the subjects of food, wine and winemakers.

Along with co-host Jason Priestley, Terry also produces the television series Hollywood and Vines. The program - which focuses on everything wine - currently airs on SuperChannel in Canada.

2014 will mark Terry's 50th year in broadcasting, no small achievement in a business known for its high churn rate.

Congratulations Terry!
