BCN sounding like half a Boston Classic Rocker

With the Patriots in season, WBCN is making a rather smart move, just about evey other song is a classic rocker now - U2, Stones, etc. etc. And it does keep some of us tuned in. There just is NOT enough good modern rock being played on the airwaves; the best modern rock is in a strange twilight-zonish underground. Seems Eliot Spitzer has not been able to quell the quid pro quo across the nation - and we are still being force-fed bad music when there's plenty of great new music. I download the song of the day on EMusic.com because all the new stuff I hear on WBCN and some of the new stuff on WFNX just isn't as good as what is really out there in cyberspace.

But if they are going to play Classic Rock, that will at least keep the Sunday pre-sets from leaving after they hear the football games

Prepping for life after Stern I suspect much like WXRK New York is heavily classic leaning sometimes too. Bcn has been on that train for the past few years now it is not anything really new. Ron Valeri back at waaf spells big trouble for the rock of Boston though with or withot Howard.

Seems like an odd move with sister station WZLX already doing classic rock. In retrospect it probably would have been a better idea for 'BCN to go the classic route since they have the heritage and for 100.7 to go with the altrock. But they didn't.

Dunno how much WAAF will gain...rock radio in general is trending downward all over the country. No longer is it a slam dunk for 18-34 men.

WAAF has a different sound than BCN, i think already has established its audience in this town, the heavier rock caters to a different crowd than to the alt rock, i could see fnx gaining more listeners after howard leaves. though when howard does leave, the hillman might be a very viable option for those without satellite radio...my predicition is little will change in the numbers with WAAF and BCN will still be doing their own thing

Biggest problem with your theory is that waaf is not really playing that much heavy stuff anymore they have really softened up and BCn is hardly an alt rock station anymore. I bet Ron Valeri will toughen aaf up pretty quickly. As for Hill man being a viable option for those who do not have sirius to hear Howard? I hope you're joking. Hillman's show is definately local but nowhere near entertaining or even interesting.
