BCN to broadcast Stern & Stevie Wonder

Guest
Howard Stern this morning said tomorrow's guest is Stevie Wonder.

Will Howard treat Stevie with the respect he deserves?

This should be interesting.

One of the most horrifying moments ever on Stern
is him desecrating the majestic "Miracles" by
Jefferson Starship - a tremendous version with
Stern cackling over Marty Balin's vocals.

Hope they had the good sense enough to record onto separate
tracks.

And why hasn't Howard released an album of great live tracks from
his show a la Letterman or the TV show "Friends" ???

I heard recently Stevie Wonder is undergoing some experimental surgery that may restore his sight. I'd guess that's what they'll be talking about. I think Howard can be respectful when he wants to.

Yes, I heard that too. It would be great to hear Wonder can see.
Was at the Boston Garden Elton John concert in the mid-70s (if memory serves) Where Stevie Wonder came out and sang "Honky Tonk Women", his first appearance since the dreadful car accident. After that accident (did a piece of lumber go through the windshield and hit Stevie?) his albums were just not as consistent.
Looking forward to this new one. Hope Stern IS respectful of this great talent.

Also saw Stevie open for The Stones when Kevin Mayor White said MY CITY'S IN FLAMES. A great parody of White's speech to be found on ex WBCN jock Michael Fremer's album I CAN'T TAKE A JOKE on Can't Tell (KTEL SPOOF) records.

The Starship did a great rendition of that at the Berklee Performance Center in Boston last Saturday night, their benefit concert for Jimmy Fund Cancer Research. Balin's voice still soars like it hasn't aged a day.

There was a 60 minutes story a few years ago about some sort of computer implant surgery on the retina that he might undergo.Howard will be respectful, the common mis conception is that howard is just an ass for the sake of being an ass, he is still (when he is well prepared) one of the best interviewers to ever grace a mic.

Thanks for alerting me to Stevie Wonder interview

Thanks for alerting me to the fact that Stevie Wonder will be on
WBCN tomorrow. I LOVE STEVIE! Would not have known about this
guest in THIS MARKET without that information.

I've not been on this long, but why is Garrett jumping on a legitimate
post? Is he a moderator?

WBCN and Stern seem to both be in this market.

And - yes - there are two or three people who are hell bent on
jumping down the throats of Lawrence Glavin, Parklane and others.

Live and let live.

Garrett's post is pushy and he is determined to buck the majority
i.m.h.o. The Moderation in here is extremely strict and limiting.
This is a healthy and welcome discussion on Howard Stern giving
some entertainment - for once.

I listened this morning, it was a great interview and Stevie Wonder is a great sport. Howard was genuinely thrilled to have the guy on, as anyone would be considering Stevie's greatness.

To make this a relevant Boston topic, when was the last time WBCN spun Stevie Wonder records? You'd have to go WAY back...<P ID="signature">______________

In the early 90's, around 1992, when WBCN was still a classic heavy AOR competing (not yet co-owned with) WZLX, they briefly tried a Sunday afternoon specialty show experiment for about a half a year in which they brought back a handful of their heritage DJ's from their late 60's "underground free-form" days in a weekly rotation, and let them do whatever they wanted on the show.

It was a great idea, but unfortunately, some of them were past their prime, or had quit doing radio after the "underground free-form" era and hadn't been on the air in twenty years, and sounded out of touch.

I don't remember exactly which of the early WBCN DJ's I heard, but one would always play a whole show of 60's Motown hits, which although they were great songs, the show really didn't fit on an AOR station. They were also the same big common Motown hits that WODS Oldies 103.3 was playing, nothing different or deeper. That was the last time I remember hearing Stevie Wonder spun on WBCN.
