BDS reporting panel updates

Is that station still on the air?

No why would you say something like that?

Didn't your mom teach you that if you can't say anything nice, you shouldn't say anything at all. ;)

Please... if you have a question or comment, I invite you to drop me an email. [email protected]

Never listened to KVBE before until this thread....but I have to say... its sounding really good.. Reminds me of what KNGY used to sound like ??? - rarely listen anymore.

Great playlist of current and re-current (without POP REMIX OVERLOAD or the OVERLY gay connotations ever persistant on KNGY!)

Good job KVBE - keep it up, I've now added as one of my bookmarks in Winamp!

WKIE/Chicago has returned to the Dance panel:

Why is WKIE reporting as a Top 40 Dance? What signal is this now? WCPT is at 92.7 Arlington Heights now. Isn't WRZA at 99.9 Kankakee? WDEK at 92.5 Dekalb? Is WKIE now at 92.7 in Kankakee and has it ditched CNN news for Top 40 dance? A bit confused here. WKIE doesn't even show up as calls that are in use by Radio-Locator.com.

WKIE in Kankakee would be a horrible market for Dance without a big enough signal to reach into the Chicago Burbs and north west Indiana,, Its only like 3kw....

WKIE is the old Energy. I wouldnt be complaining about a station getting BDS. We lost two in past few weeks. We need as many stations on that panel as possible.

WKIE reports dance now as it's dance half the day and news the other half. This makes it much easier for BDS to pull out the songs that the dance programmer is playing as opposed to the old AC programmer.

Are we talking about WKIF instead of WKI'E'? The 9FM cluster seems to have broken down into (92.5 WDEK, Dekalb, 92.7 WCPT Arlington Heights, 99.9 WCPQ Kankakee). There is the CNN news outlet that used to be Energy 92.7 but has been WKIF, Kankakee. There is no sign of the calls WKIE anywhere anymore. Where is WKIE now? What frequency, what city? What is half news, half dance? WKIF? Doesn't seem to be WKIE. Clear as mud, right?

Brett makes a good point indeed, but In guessing that this is now part of the Dance Factory Cluster,,, and im very happy to see the Dance Factory night time Dance format on the BDS panel,,, its about time.. If thats the case I dont think its the Kankakee 92.7, cause its in the same coverage area as 99.9,, unless 99.9 no longer carries dance facotry at night,, which would suck cause they had a killer 50kw signal that made it into indianpolis at times... the signal was fuzzy in Downtown Chicago, but still very listenable,, better than the old Energy signal in Downtown... But I pray that 99.9 hasnt dropped DF,,, that was a great signal for the south side and the western Burbs,,, and even in Downtown on a car radio,, back when 99.9 was CHR as THE BUS WBUS,,, they had no trouble billing and selling themselves as a Chicago station... The stick is only about 30 miles south of Downtown which isnt bad for a 50kw torch,, the thing that made the signal noisy was interference around the John Hancock tower from 99.5 and 100.3...... Plus being shortspaced by another 50kw torch country station on 99.9 from Benton harbor Michigan beamed across the lake,, especially bad in summer.

I'm pretty sure the 99.9 signal is still doing Dance Factory. It's just the BDS panel is reporting WKIE as Top 40 Dance when I can't find those calls in use anymore.

BTW, I remember the BUS! Great station. Rivaled B-96 musically for quite a while. Fun, gutsy, dance-friendly with that blowtorch! I love driving by that tower on my way to Chicago. It's right at 100 miles north of my house (a bit too far to catch the signal) but it is huge with that shed and 99.9 painted on it (old school look). I point it out to my wife everytime we drive by it. She rolls her eyes and just doesn't care. That's the difference between this "radio geek" world and my wife -- the real world. They just don't care that much. :)

Sounds like my Ex when We drove by it I 57,, she never remembered or cared about the station.. I could often pick it up on tropo near indianapolis,, but not for a long time,,, I dont think they put out the full 50 KW anymore,, the new Company doesnt keep the TX maintained as well as WBUS did... that station used to be such a Torch,, and it still goes for miles and miles in its current state.

The Bus also Rivaled Z-95,, later Hot 94.7 as well, and 101.1 when they were CHR.. Can you beleive Chi-town used to have that many CHRs,,, I remember one on 102.3 too, but it wasnt inside the metro Chicago, but woud boom into the Burbs.

102.3 is WXLC/Waukegan (Lake County). They are now Hot AC. Wikipedia says that they used to be known as "Hot 102.3 FM".

I definitely remember listening to Hot 102.3 in the mid 90s. It was a pure CHR playing all the hits, at a time when many of the biggest metros didnt have a CHR, and many other markets had Adult leaning CHRs.
I was also amazed at how good Energy 88.7 sounded at the time. They had a tiny signal. Right next to them on the dial was Power 88.9, which actually broadcasted in mono, LOL.

If im not mistaken 88.7 still airs some Dance specialty shows.... Id forgotten all about that station,, Your right it is really weak.

Also,,, that 102.3 was dance friendly too,, the first station I heard the song Dirty Cash-from Adventures of Stevie V,,,, Not to be confused with Stevie B....lol..... You couldnt pick it up well in Chicago, but I could get it at my aunts in Woodridge,, near Bollingbrook, and Naperville.

Also,, when Q-101 was a chr in 91 they were Dance friendly, first station I heard Enigma-Sadness on,, but by 92 Q-101 was like an Adult top 40,, I dont know when they went Alternative but I know that in 98 they were full blown Modern Rock,,,

I bounced around alot at this time between Chicago,,, Knoxville TN area,,,, 30 miles east of there,, and eventually to Indianapolis area.... and even a few brief times of living in South Carolina,, most recently in like 2002, but that was only for like 3 months...

Hot 94.7 was a one-hit radio wonder. Very short-lived but great sound, lots of dance/rhythm, Mark Driscoll's big voice and Bubba The Love Sponge! I don't remember Hot 102.3 but I do remember catching a monster signal across Lake Michigan once in 1988, getting Milwaukee's Hot 102 WLUM in Lansing, MI! 1988-1993 were great years for Dance/CHR type stations. Miss those days.

Another station in that area that comes to mind,, Wasnt a Chicago station,, but i thought it was at the time... It was on 95.1,, and simply refered to itself as Lakeshores New Number one Hit music station,, I figured it was Chicago since they have Lake Shore Drive, and I assumed that was where the studio was at,, it wasnt there anymore in 92-93 I dont think,, The station I finally found out was from Kenosha Wisconsin quite a ways from my aunts house on the south west end... I also remember a CHR on 96.7 from Joliet,,, It was very weak but they were top 40 too, but it wasnt clear enough to listen to,,,, I honestly hadnt remembered the 96.7 in joliet since at least 1992,, Im surprised it just popped into my head.. I didnt get to listen to 96.7 Joliet enough to remember the calls or if they were dacne friendly, but the 95.1 in Kenosha played stuff like Technotronic, Color me BADD--I wanna Sex you up,,,, Big Big hit in 91,, and also all the Chicago stations played Latour-People are still having sex,,, probably because Bill Latour is from Chicago..

While in Tennesse we had I-100 WOKI,, It was a good CHR, but with more of a Rock lean,, they played I wanna sex you up cause it was too big to ignore, but didnt play Latour-People are still having sex... East tennessee was more conservative than Chicago back then.. But in its final year of WOKi as a CHR in late 91 and 92 they became very Dance Friendly and played stuff like 2 unlimited Twilight Zone,,, Lissete Mendez-Together Forever, Crystal Waters-Gypsy Woman, and KLF 3 AM Eternal, Corina-Temptation as well,, although Chicago, Miami and Indiana played this song months before WOKI did,, in fact Power 96 Broke that song a year and half before it became a CHR Hit. But thats just to name a few... but they also would play stuff like Metalica-Nothing else Matters, and Wherever I may roam.... and then even play soft rock like Bett Midler....
