Be Careful of What You Wish For!

The news reads: "Alliance Wants FCC to Include HD Radio in Sat Receivers".

Okay, let's say the FCC approves this ruling: "all new SatRad radios built after January 1, 2009 must include HD radio" -BUT, what if they ALSO say in the same ruling: "all HD radios built after January 1, 2009 must include reception of XM/Sirius"?

Be very careful of what you wish for, as you can rarely have it both ways.

Not a problem for me. Believe me, I've had my three free months of artifacts. No thanks. But, feel free to include it in my radio. I'll work around it.

And include WiFi/WiMax wireless internet radio, so you can get the hundreds of new HD radio stations that "over the air" HD radio falsely promises, plus 30,000 internet and broadcast radio stations, plus, over 100,000 podcasts on demand.
Now that's real choice and variety!
WOW! What a deal!

I'd gladly BUY a radio that included AM, FM, HD, XM (not much use for Sirius) AND Wi-Fi. In fact, I'd stand in line for that one. But REQUIRING all of that certainly drives up the price.

Well now let's see, according to the FCC database there are just over 1200 FM stations running iboc. Nowhere did anyone promise they would be available all in one market.

Getting just a wee bit deceptive again?

Not me.

"Get hundreds of new stations between the stations" is a direct quote from the 2007 HD radio promotional campaign.

Only HD radio snake oil salesman need to peddle lies.

Per chance, might you be thinking of this quote: Over 1,300 stations in the United States are now broadcasting with digital HD Radio™ technology with over 600 offering new HD2 or HD3 "multicasting" channels.

From: http://www.hdradio.com/the_buzz.php?thebuzz=169

Note: "..in the United States..."

You're tricky one..

Nope, your wrong again.
My quote "Get hundreds of new stations between the stations" was directly from the 2007 HD promotional campaign websites and literature. You don't have to look far, It's very well documented right here on this HD radio board.

I am against having the government make any requirements on what bands can be heard on radios.
There are plenty of FM only receivers out there. Why not mandate that radios can only be sold that include both FM and AM?

In fact, let's just go for broke and have the feds require that all radios sold in the US have AM/FM/HD/XM/Sirius/Shortwave/WiFi/WiMax?
The number of radios available for sale in the US would drop dramatically and so would listenership on all those stations.

Any attempt at government mandated radio specs like this should be fought by all of us.

Gee. I've read alot of the official press releases and the only reference to "hundreds of stations" as been regional/nationwide.

Ofcourse if somebody posted it here, it must be true.

Keep it up.
