Be Careful Who You Buy From

You really find out who the reputable parts dealers are when there is a problem. We have a small, local AM radio station on Long Island with two tube driven transmitters.

We buy tubes pretty regularly for our Gates transmitter and for our Collins transmitter. We've been buying from RF Parts out in California for years and are very impressed with them. They stand behind what they sell and whenever we have had a problem with a bad tube, they exchanged it or refunded the money promptly.

They are honorable.

We had been buying tubes for the Collins transmitter from Thomas J. Bruckner of New Jersey and have come to find out that. . .well. . .maybe customer satisfaction isn't quite so important with him. We had bought a pair of Eimac 4-400A tubes for the transmitter only to find that they weren't good. Fair enough. Sometimes you do get bad tubes. Try getting a refund !

Worse than that. . .I am told by others that this is his standard operating procedure. He's great when he's selling you tubes but when it comes time to stand behind the product, he can't be found.

Be forewarned.

I often wonder why some of these dealers act like this? Since I am not the DOE for the evil empire, they think, so what, he only controls 3 stations, no big rip if we lose his business. What, like us engineers never talk or post on open forums? Thanks for the tip! We all should be more diligent on posting who is a great supplier and who is not, without being either a spokeperson for the place or a pain in the ass continuous whiner.
