Be Prepared For More Personnel Changes at WROC TV

The word is that Nextstar plans another series of personnel purges in order to make their stations look profitable to a prospective buyer. So don’t be surprised if there are some on and off air people go MIA. Barnas was the first to go because the station decided not to renew her contact. Other contracts are coming up and there isn’t any rush to renew those agreements either; at least on the part of management.
Meanwhile sources within the station tell me that a number of reporters have been sending out tapes and resumes in an attempt to get out of harms way before the ax falls. One reporter is trying to get out of a no-compete clause in order to work for a competitor. Will the last person at 201 Humboldt Street please turn out the lights?

What is going on at channel 8? I swear, if they weren't a network affilate, they would have been closed up shop. They are really looking like a joke in Rochester compared to 10 and 13.

OUCH! My only hope for WROC is that their "prospective buyer" will be a decent buyer. We don't need Granite, who destroyed WKBW and WTVH, nor Sinclair to buy it up. I wonder if Freedom Commuications, who own WRGB in Albany would be interested. They've done decently with that station.

I curious, how were the latest ratings? I see they haven't been posted yet...

Some posts in this topic have been moved to Take It Outside.

But someone took off the thread on the 'Take it Outside' board. Hmmm, I must have revealed the identity of the defender of WROC's News Director. An educated guess that hit the bullseye, remarkable!

With the CBS Evening News tanking in the ratings, and the constant change of personnel at Channel 8 over the past three years years I'm surprised the station even bothers to carry local news anymore. Just run a game or talk show at 6 and 11; the station might actually garner some viewers.

Every station goes through personnel changes. Granted Channel 8 has managed to have a higher rate of turnover than 10 or 13, but that doesn't mean those other two TV operations haven't hired new people to replace individuals who have either left for larger markets or just got out of broadcasting.

As for station owners, again 8 has had its unfortunate share of owners who seem to care more for making money than trying to build a solid local operation and maintain good quality talent. But remember my friends that Channel 13 has a "For Sale" sign in its front yard and no one knows yet who will buy WOKR (Sorry but for me WHAM means radio) and what changes the new owners might bring. The same scenario could also apply for Channel 10 as the day will, not might, but will come when 10 is on the market to be sold as well.

Even R-News has undergone personnel changes during the past few years.

It's the nature of the beast that people come and go in this business, so I don't see what all the commotion is about Channel 8 and personnel changes. I'm sure there will be more people leaving WROC in the future as they move on to other locations or professions. Life goes on.

Mark, did you have a memory lapse, or did you just miss the memo?

You even posted in that thread back on April 24th. The entire ClearChannel TV group, including WHAM-TV, was sold to a single new owner. Providence Equity Partners is set to take over by the end of this year. Still nobody knows what the new owners will do, but we do at least know who they are, and the "For Sale" sign is gone.

Well you know what they say about getting older Bob, the memory is the second thing to go. ;D

You are right, I did forget that 13 was sold. In fact I believe someone else posted a warning on here that the person buying 13 also had control of 8 years ago.

Now if I just can remember what I had for breakfast this morning, the day would start off on a good foot.
