Be Safe

Just looked at the latest forecasts for the Louisiana Coast. Hope the people in the affected area have already left to higher ground. The 15 - 20 foot storm surges that can go inland 20 or 30 miles will be fatal. I don't think there is any reason to risk it to keep any broadcast station on the air. There is a chance this thing reaches Cat. 5. I don't think there will be many broadcast facilities undamaged much less able broadcast during this storm.

Prayers for anyone in the area.

Do we know who's on the air, who's off the air, and about any facilities that are damaged?

I saw a FB post from Bruce Merchant stating his station (KEZM-Sulphur) was significantly damaged and will not be returning
KPLC's studio link tower was folded over and Cynthia Arceneaux posted pics of the KPLC studios appearing to be a total loss, including daylight entering from where the roof once was located

This is the post from the KEZM Facebook Page:

KEZM Sportsradio 1310

Hey SWLA, like many of you, KEZM sustain a lot of damage from Laura. Lost satellite dishes, sustained studio damage, and lost our antenna tower. We will survey the damages and see if and when we can be back up, if we can at all. STAY SAFE!!!

The old KVHP tower off I210 was also destroyed, taking KSWL-LP CBS17 and it's sister on 19 off the air. A 500ft tower in Sulphur used by 2way was also lost. Bruce is looking at possibilities for 1310 for a new permanent home.

Curious... Is there any local OTA TV broadcasting in Lake Charles other than Lafayette or Beaumont?
