Beach Boys heard today

Was it Kokomo! That song came out in the 2nd half of the 80's. Please don't tell me they are starting to play 80's music!!

LBB, good to see your sense of humor is as I remember it from 20+ years ago.

Long live KFRC, KJR, KOL, CFUN, and others who did it right! Let's share some digital stuff when we both get it together!

Best,

SRF

Is this a slow radio news week?

It was released in July 1988 to the U.S. Let's skip this and play Surfin USA if we want to hear Beach Boys. KMCQ shouldn't play 80s stuff.

AQH,

I do, they played a Beach Boy song and it may of been from 1988. If this station continues to play song from the 80's they will lose me!!!
Also, I'm getting really tired of hearing commercials now and then. Furthermore, what the hecks going on with American top 40?? Who's running this show anyway. Playing Brenda Lee out of season is over the top! I'm about to have a breakdown!!!!!!!!

Guy makes a joke around here (and a pretty funny one) and then the next ten posters show why it's so funny! I love you people. No, really. ::)

If you're running a station that plays primarily 60s/70s music, it makes sense to me that occasionally you can slip in a later song by one of the popular/important groups of that era. They can play "Come Dancing", "Don't Forget to Dance" or "Do it Again" by the Kinks and I won't complain. "Your Wildest Dreams" from the Moody Blues, "No More Lonely Nights" or "My Brave Face" from Macca, or a Wilburys track. It would still be more creative than the cookie cutter format KJR is doing.

The station is not in the top 20 12+ but seems to be all over this board. In the holiday book it just cracked the top 25 25-54. I respect those on this board that love the station. I do tune in once in a while and get a kick out of it.

I think "Classic Hits" and "The Greatest Hits" gives more leeway than dating a format ("'60/'70s", "'80s/'90s".) Same with simply "Oldies".

Pretty much any hit pop tune before 1995 could count as an oldie. Yes, 1995. And that's being conservative. Some argue any hit pop tune before 2000 counts.

Time still marches on......

But looking at the '90s musically, it's gonna be a hell of a decade to incorporate......

And it's unfortunate, as the years go by, the more 80s, 90s and 2000s stuff floats onto classic hits radio. Imagine hearing "Sexy and I Know It" in 30 years on KJR...

Agreed. Beyond the Beatles reunion tracks it's gonna be, what? Segue from American Pie to Smells Like Teen Spirit to Daydream Believer to Cop Killer....I don't think so! ::)
