Beantown! Where Music Live's !

SPELLING POLICE... Where Music LIVES. No apostrophe

Also--no native calls Boston "Beantown." That's for people who don't know better.

Boston does have a pretty vibrant musical community--one thing it does lack is a permanent do-it-yourself all ages space, without any corporate venue involvement. Ah well--at least there are basement shows.

also, thank (insert deity here) for college radio since it does have a variety of music. I'd say pirate radio too but I don't need the wrath of WLYN-GM today :D

I could have told you that there are many people who claim to be musicians in Boston, and even if they can't speak for themselves because of an unfortunate case of hot lead poisoning, when the seven mothers of their nine children are axed about their dear departed it never fails that they were an aspiring rap artist.

For the sake of discussion does that qualify them as a musician for survey purposes?

I'm not native, and while I've heard of Boston being called "Beantown," I've never actually heard someone say Beantown. If you look at the Boston mugs at your local Starbucks, there it is, Beantown. And if you look in today's Globe, you will see an ad for the local jazz Beantown Festival. There's just no panache to Beantown. The Big Apple, the Big Easy, those sound like fun. But Beantown? It makes Boston sound like a lot of bad air, no pun intended.

Not to mention the beanpot hockey tournament. Agreed though, I've never heard a local (or anyone from anywhere else in New England) refer to Boston as "beantown".

"Beantown" is like those Walk/Don't Walk pedestrian traffic lights -
the locals could care less, they are there merely for the tourists. ;D
