Beasley Broadcast Group to Acquire Greater Media, Inc.

Although, honest question... does 99.5 WJBR count towards Beasley's count in Philly?

No. The FCC uses Nielsen defined markets. So, WJBR-FM is a Wilmington station. Beasley should be able to add one more station in Philadelphia with this deal.

It was always interesting to me that they traded away their FMs to CBS, but kept their AMs in Philly. I remember thinking at the time (and I may have even written it here) that they're not going to stay here with just three AMs. It makes no financial sense. So after years of competing against Greater Media, they now own those stations. I expect they already know how they'll run them. Not much of a learning curve here.

Don't touch the 4 stations? 'MMR & 'MGK are doing better than they have been in years. Ben seems to hold its own and WPEN has two of the 4 sports teams and puts a dent in WIP. They could change WTEL to WPEN-AM and call it 610 ESPN and run it with 97.5.

Beasley is a good company, but it definitely likes to do things its way. I suspect, however, that most of the changes that will be made will happen in corporate and middle management. Don't expect Greater Media's corporate programming staff to still be around after this deal, but the average listener probably won't notice much. Plus, Greater Media already took a machete to the budget in nearly every market. Beasley is known for being lean and was probably aware of what was going on.
