Central Jersey Beasley cuts

Yesterday, Beasley showed some people the doors in another round of horrible budget cuts.
Gone is Debbie Mazella, PD/Midday at Magic 98.3 after 18 years there…
And Terrie Carr from 105.5 WDHA. Both were incredibly talented and huge assets to both stations.

A shame. Really a shame… here’s hoping they both land even better opportunities since Beasley couldn’t recognize their worth. :(

Very unfortunate, though all too predictable. Two very good broadcasters and from all indications probably even better people. I'm afraid to hear what the middays will sound like now. Probably voice tracked, possibly even from one of their other markets.

Wow… Two Jersey radio staples and two heritage brands. For smaller market stations, both could easily hold their own against NYC stations. Both Terrie and Debbie clearly knew what they were doing. Curious to see how the stations fare now and who takes over the PD reins…

Unfortunately to corporate, it's all about saving $$$. Doesn't matter how well your performance reviews are. If they see you are clearly making too much money, you will get the axe.

Wow. That's a shame about Terri Carr. She's been there forever and feels like the heart of that station...

Have always enjoyed listening to WDHA because they have a bit of a broader playlist than most of heritage rockers these days. Guess it's time for cookie-cutter AOR in Cedar Knolls.

From what I’m told Debbie Was Magic 98.3. She Basically Ran the place on her own. So that’s why I’m stunned 😳 that they let her go
Not sure about recently, but I had the same vibe 5 to 10 years ago as well. It's a shame. Funny someone mentioned it earlier, but even after a full weekday, both Debbie and Terrie are still on the webpages. It speaks volumes about the operation.

And as it has been ever since they moved to Somerset, WMTR is still only sending one channel of audio to the transmitter... unless they intended to play an instrumental version of "Twist and Shout" this morning.

Beastley also cut "Cadillac Jack" McCartney who did double duty programming their cluster in Beantown while also serving as corporate VP of Strategy & Analytics. Been there since the Greater Media days.

I just saw on WDHA's site that Jimmy Steal from WRAT has been "'robbed' from our sister station The Rat to hang with us on weekends."

That has to be a voice tracked shift or two, right? I'm guessing, unlike the union rules for WMMR and their Philly stations, Beasley can VT all the weekend shifts they want at WDHA and WRAT?

Wow that's bad. And to think of the many ways that could easily and inexpensively be fixed.

Just put on WMTR for the first time in a while. Since when did the station become such a mess? Trainwreck segues, a ton of unfamiliar songs… I remember their music mix used to be very focused, and it sounded slick for a small market AM. Given the rest of Beasley’s problems, I’m certain this isn’t top of the list, but sad to see a once good station devolve like this. Surprised it was as solid as it was for as long as it was.

According to Ginny Otte, who got laid off from WMTR/WDHA during Beasley's last round of budget cuts, they're now using "AI-driven music selections":

That's not fully correct, just like nearly anything posted on that board.

WMTR is using an AI-enhanced playout system called Super Hi-Fi. That's what she's referring to. AI isn't picking the music, but it is managing segues. WMGQ and WDHA had briefly switched to Super Hi-Fi earlier this year but then switched back to Wide Orbit after some issues.
