Beasley going Top 40 in Augusta?

is it true that Beasley in Augusta in going top 40 with The Big Dog? They are running liners directing people to switch over to Kicks 99 and saying that a new station is coming soon. A friend of mine saw Jerry Clifton having dinner two nights in a row at the T Bonz on Washington road withe the highe ups of beasley! Clifton is the Beasley's guy for Top 40/CHR. It only makes sense for them to go top 40. The biggest void in the market is CHR. I hear Dakota West and McKenzie Clark are going to do the morning show! That makes sense because Dakota is currently doing mid days on the big dog! I've also heard that somone who is currently working for Clear Channel in Augusta is going to be the new PD? You would think the OM at CC would have insight on that one! They have a few Y-105 people left over so that could happen to! We;ll im shocked it took them this long to go Top 40. The whole idea of 3 country stations in Augusta is just crazy. Can't wait to watch this one unfold! Has anyone heard anything about this?

If Beasley does go CHR, more power to them. After all, it was only a matter of time before having three country stations in Augusta got old.

Yeah, the Big Dog folks have posted on the website that the station was going away, and was redirecting listeners to Kicks. I thought the idea of adding a third country station was ridiculous in the first place, and now I remember that it was almost exactly a year ago that the flips went down. Wasn't too happy to see Y105 go away, but at least the CSRA will (hopefully, there aren't too many other formats to flip to) have a new CHR soon. Too bad it's on a crap signal.

Deejayryan, wherever he is, will be pleased.

Does my heart good to see my hometown might FINALLY get a CHR in town. And by a company that actually cares about its audience.

Go get 'em, guys.

And let's not forget that the father of Top-40 in Augusta, the legendary Handsome Harley Drew, is "in the house", doing mornings on Beasley's WGAC. He has been thoroughly pissed over how Cumulus and Gary Pizzati destroyed WBBQ. Although today's CHR is not Harley's Top-40, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he hasn't been pushing this move. <P ID="signature">______________

Wouldn't surprise me, either.

Honestly, I think signal has been the issue holding up the process. CHR needs a decent signal to work and 'stick' in the market.

The corporates who used to do CHR in Augusta also had a policy about not hiring jocks who'd worked CHR in the market before, too.

Why would they not want to hire folks who were familiar to the market, with history in the market?

It was frustrating when I'd shown interest then.

93.9 is a 10k signal and covers the metro. it's no 100k class c, but it's not a weak stick either

You're right, Ron. The signal is very strong until you get to Aiken, but is weak in the eastern part of Aiken County.
