beatles / WGRZ tv

I am not sure if I am permitted to give a link
to the story, but check it - great story
about dan Neverth and not booking the
beatles. for the first US concert -
(oops) Danny, is such a class act - wish
I was "there" to hear him in the heyday!

Saw the story. Very fun to watch.

I am curious as to why it was just Danny interviewed. Aren't there some other KB jocks still in the area they could have done some interviews with?

Don't get me wrong, I love Danny, but I would have liked to hear some different perspectives.

We're talking 1963-64 IIRC, and there aren't too many of the KB'ers from that era still around. Danny's still there, of course, and so is Tommy Shannon although he may already have moved on to the Big 8 by '64, not to return home until many years later, so he may not have been in town for this one. They could also have tried to reach out to Joey Reynolds in NYC, I guess....

Some of the other major personalities we associate with KB in the 60s are, sadly, no longer around--Jungle Jay Nelson is gone now, so are Fred Klestine and Rod Roddy. Others hadn't yet arrived--Stan Roberts was still in the Capital District in '64, Jeff Kaye was at WBZ.

So Danny was the best available source.

So Danny was the best available source.

That may be the first time Dan has been referred to as the "best AVAILABLE source" . :D

Why would GeorgeK NEED additional interviews anyway ??? (Dan pretty much covered it- duh)

That's all

I believe that the story said that Dan & Joey were approached as promoters, not the radio station. They'd already teamed up on "Rats In My Room" and other ventures. They would have been putting the money up, and either didn't have the cash, or didn't want to risk it. Remember, back then, $5K was a LOT of money - probably a year's salary for a lot of guys in radio. Minimum wage was $1.65 an hour - or $66 a week. That's less than $3500 a year. They were making money on the side with record hops and the KB Yo-Yos. This would have been a side venture. They'd also need to put down deposits on a venue, security, etc. That's a lot of guaranteed money for a group that hadn't been on Sullivan yet.
