I didn't live in the area back in the 106.3 days, but would listen whenever I was within earshot. Some of the names I remember are Grant West,Jeff Ryder,Andy Carey,Jim West & Mike O'neil.

was it Mike O'Neil or Bill O'Neil?

i know that Andy Carey went on to enjoy a really long run at WHYN in Springfield (Back in the Guy Gannett days).

Jeff Ryder was around in the early 97.9 portion, wasn't he? (i didn't come to Maine until late '78 courtesey of the Navy)

i met Beau when he took over as pd at WROR (105.7) after Harry Nelson left. Beau mentioned that he had one of the legendary "house names" at the original 'JBQ: Kenny Bunker. He was always talking about returning to Maine. wonder if he'll do so now? i keep telling him to come on back - we're always open. well, at least the store in Freeport. ;-)

***********I don't remember Bill working there until the 97.9 days.Andy Carey brought Mike O'neil along with Jim West from WHEB.After Andy left 'HEB.'HEB became"The Star Station",Hot A/C. That's when Tom Bergeron worked there.
Also Mike O'neil was the one on the air when 'JBQ did the frequency swap at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon from 106.3 to 97.9.

*********When Andy Carey left 'JBQ I think he went to WSNE Sunny 93 in Taunton.

*********Don't know about that one,but he was at WJTO FM 95.3 in the early seventies when it was Top 40.

Bergeron was BRILLIANT in the evening in Portsmouth. glad to see he's having a great run of things, even if he did (sniff sniff) pass over radio in favor of tv. ;-)

Andy also PD'd at WCOZ after Sebastian left. there's an aircheck of he & Tom Doyle doing mornings (post-kickassrock&roll)

The Reason I was hired at WJBQ in March
of 1975 was because Beau Raines "KENNY BUNKER"
had just left... I did Mid-days after WALLY BRINE
I had just come from WIVY in Jacksonville Florida
Also worked at WJBQ in 1980-1982
and did the Morning Show after Wally Brine Left
for WVBF in Boston..I followed him down in March of
of 1982 doing evenings
I remember Very Well WJBQ going to 98 FM under PD
Brian Phoenex Not Andy Carey..I was THERE!
we called it THE GREAT 98
also worked at WJBQ in 1986 THEN MY FAVORITE
person TURNER PORTER bought it!
Did Mornings for TURNER AT WWGT(WJBQ)
till he Fired Me....HE fires EVERYONE
sooner or Later
RIGHT now I'm Doing Mornings for JEFF RYDER
my PD at WJBQ (THE first Time)
AND having FUN AGAIN!! in Radio
( I was in the Studio the DAY WALLY got the
call from REG JOHNS at WVBF in Boston)
