i would like to know how 990 am in beaumont can stay off the air for years and never notify the fcc and they dont do anything about it there is no way that that station can be legal it has not ran at full power for years and the old transmitter died due to the fact that the building rotted away leaving it exposed to the elements the towers are leaning and the land is in bad shape the studios flooded during the hurricane and will need to be redone but before that the roof was bad and leaking all in the building black mold everywhere
 
KOLE in Port Arthur is off the air and has been for weeks now. It had a gospel music type of format, similar to what I remember on KZZB. Two more stations for the Golden Triangle graveyard.

....or two more in need of a moving truck. I kid, but who knows? At the rate it has been going over the years, both stations might look to scoot over more towards Houston. Martin Broadcasting (owner of KZZB) has two properties in Houston (KYOK-Conroe, KWWJ-Baytown) and KOLE's sister station KRCM is already (supposedly) heading this way. No matter how thin the slice of pie is in H-Town, it's apparently more lucrative to be an also ran in Houston, than a legitimate service to the Triangle.

Stan: Is KIKR off the air? I've been getting KSIG out of Crowley here in Orange County for the past few days.

KIKR appears to be off the air at this time. I don't normally listen to it, so I'm not sure how long it is been off the air.
 
Maybe it has reached the point where it's easier to list what AM stations are still on the air, not who's off. Sounds like there's a lot of scrap metal in the Triangle.
 
I was in the Triangle in late November and KIKR was not on the air, so it's been at least three to four weeks of silence, probably more.

BTW, 1150-AM KBPO was on the air again, but there were several times during the day when you could hear the carrier but there was no programming.
 
Here are the stations currently on the air in the Triangle, near as I can tell.

KLVI - 560
KBPO - 1150
KDEI - 1250
KSET - 1300
KOGT - 1600

Off the air, most of the time here lately -

KZZB - 990
KOLE - 1340
KIKR - 1450
KBED - 1510
 
I stand corrected - 1510 was on the air today when I checked. The problem is, sometimes its on at night as well. ::)

The sad thing is with all of those stations turned off there are several formats that could be done in Beaumont and make money on AM!

Adult standards/Big Band
Classic Country

Give people something worth listening to on the radio right now there is one decent station in Beaumont...KCOL-FM
 
KCOL and KSET are the two stations that have more live / local content than the others. KLVI still has some local content, but for how long?

KOGT is also live and local.

My bad - you are correct. I'll blame it on my cold medicine.
 
How many AM stations does Beaumont really need?? there is only one with any real ratings! Other than that KOGT should still be there, but the rest might as well turn off their transmitters. They do nothing for the community. Leave KLVI and KOGT and turn the rest off and give the bandwidth to people that can use it!
 
KLVI will be all syndicated soon enough once Al retires. I fear the consolidation of the news rooms with CC will continue until there is no local 'news' staff left at CC - Beaumont, so KLVI is off my listening list anyway.
 
600kogo, in response to your "there are only 2 am that should be left," you should rethink that. KSET gets live and local, with more live local programming than KLVI has had in years. Monitor the station and you will hear plenty of local advertisers. Look at KSET's Facebook page Locally owned and operated talkers can make money and serve the community.
 
well the problem is that KSET's signal is "el stinko"! they need to acquire another signal for their programming. Maybe they could buy the Radio Maria station??
