Beaumont is back in the Mix

6 months after KKMY flipped from hot AC to CHR "Kiss," CC brings Mix back to Southeast Texas as "Mix 103.3," displacing the comedy format.

Is the Mix format originating on a HD channel of KKMY?

The way that CC works for the most part they dont go in reverse with formats. But if they follow what they have been doing in every other market where a station is not doing as well as they prefer, it will probably become KLVI-FM 104.5 and simulcast 560.

And actually the best thing to do would be put the "Cool oldies" on to the 100kw 104.5 blow torch and then turn 92.5 into KLVI-FM. That way it would help Cool's ratings.

Since when has 104.5 been a 100kw blow torch? Certainly not in the old KZOM days when then transmitter was closer to Orange, although I recall picking it up at the beach. Putting oldies on 104.5 would bring the old KKMY full circle to when it ran oldies when it was first on the air after the death of KZOM.

What KLVI needs is a FM that can cover the Triangle and areas to the north where KLVI is deficient. Based on the maps it appears KKMY would be the best shot.

Why did Clear Channel derate KCOL? I seem to recall it was more powerful when the transmitter was near Bridge City than where it is now.

KKMY moved to the KBTV/KIOC site 2 years ago and has always been a 100KW station it just went from a Class C2 to a Class C1. It is at 1000 feet up and is 20 miles closer to Beaumont.

KCOL-FM has always had the same signal and has not downgraded! It was on a 400 foot tower in Bridge City with a 6 bay antenna and a 6 KW transmitter. It is now at 450 feet with a 10 bay antenna and 6kw of TPO and is 10 miles closer to Beaumont.

If it was a C2, it couldn't have always been a 100kw station. C2's are maxed out at 50 (less if the transmitter goes above a certain point).

It is presently a class C1 and it was a C1 my finger slipped but the old Orange tower was only 450 feet high, and it (topographically) was in a lower elevation than the current tower. I made a rough estimate of the tower height of the current tower it is on the new KBTV digital tower at 764 feet. The tower had to be be beefed up to allow for that antenna. But it was and still is 100KW. It was on a 10 bay antenna at Orange and it has a brand new 10 bay at KBTV.

I remember where the old tower was, barely peeking above the trees next to I-10.

I suppose this is why the 103.3 frequency was used in the first place, although I never had a problem picking up KKMY in Beaumont then either.
