BEAUTIFUL GIRLS SEAN KINGSTON on Hot AC

I guess so. I just saw on Radio and Records Hot AC Chart that "Beautiful Girls" by Sean Kingston is a new add. I don't think that fits Hot AC that good. I thought the same when "My Love" by Justin Timberlake was added. I know that Hot AC's are sounding more like Top 40s without the hip hop. So we ask why is this song being added.

I'm not gonna add it. I can see how Hot AC is somewhat like Top 40 without the rap....but the last few weeks of new Hot AC adds have been disappointing. Just seems like a lot of stuff better fit for AAA.

I think my station will pass on Sean Kingston. It has potential for the very CHR leaning Hot ACs... and since they spin them 60+ times a week... it may pop up on the very bottom of the chart... but don't expect it to be a Hot AC Smash.

On the same note, I just threw Elliot Yamin into medium rotation, a little surprised my listeners picked up on it. (Not all of them... the side that likes My Chemical Romance doesn't want to hear it)... but it's looking good.

Hey Beejus, what newer Hot AC songs are doing well on your station right now?

Hmm... straight up Hot AC? Lemme think. (I'm on vacation, and a bit hungover while typing this... so my brain isn't firing on all cylinders...)

Avril's "When You're Gone" is doing pretty well for me, Collective Soul's "Hollywood" took a few weeks to catch on but that song has taken off amazingly well. Finger 11's "Paralyzer" just broke into the top 40 of the Hot AC chart, and I've had it in heavy rotation for months now... STILL gettingr requests for it.

Otherwise, I have a very weird, but diverse mix that is doing really well. Poison's cover of "Sexyback" exploded even though I never added the original. Silverchair's "Straight Lines" has taken off, new stuff from the Starting Line... Fall Out Boy is basically an instant add with my listeners.

Lifehouse is still going strog, but probably going to fade for a bit... Daughtry's new one exploded already.

The music mix I keep is weird... but it works... we nearly doubled our share this book :)

Maybe Hot AC is becoming more and more like CHR as time goes by. Eventually, CHR will be the mainstay for hip hop and Latino.

Agreed. I think Hot AC has become the "CHR of middle America" over the past couple of years.

I'll admit I'm more of an Adult CHR these days... just with Hot AC style spins (34 spins for #1 instead of 55 to 60). My listeners in my area are... I don't want to say weird... but different. They love to rock (Finger 11, Papa Roach), don't mind some out there sounding stuff (Mika), and won't let go of the 80s (anything from Bon Jovi to Jeff Healey Band to Tone Loc). It made me open up the song library to around 1100-1200 songs in regular rotation with about another 500 in the "oh wow" category that has the song pop up maybe once a month. It's worked. TSL was great and Cume built last book.

PS- Poison's cover of Sexyback. Add it. Even if you didn't play the original. It probably will burn REALLY fast... but it'll get em listening!

Milwaukee's WKTI just added this. In my opinion of late they seem to be a CHR leaning Hot Adult station. It seems they keep adding more and more Justin Timberlakes , Gym Class hero's, and Fergies. Their sort of switching their focus. It seems they are trying to remain current while still appealing to adults. It's amazing they have not even touched the new Goo Goo Dolls song..when just a year ago it would have been an automatic add.

Seems the artists themselves are trying to appeal to adults as well especially with the current odes to The Drifters and Supertramp. Stations playing those songs are accomplishing quite a bit in appealing to adults while the younger audiences may not even know those older groups or their songs.

Beejus what station do you work at? Are you a PD? Not fair, I want to be a PD!

I've heard of that station (isn't it actually licensed in Deerfield, MO?) but have never listened to it yet since it doesn't stream. Do you know when it's going to stream if at all possible? Wow, if you're the PD and the morning show host, then you have it made for radio. Great job!

Yeah, our city of liscence is technically Deerfield, MO... which is about 25 miles as the bird flies from Pittsburg, where our studios are located. Our tower is located just south of Fort Scott, Kansas.

Sadly we don't stream, and I don't see us starting anytime in the near future. Our sister station, 96.9 The Kow (KKOW-FM) just got music streaming online recently and have been battling a bunch of problems with it.

Thanx for the kind words :)

I don't care for the Sean Kingston song, However I would add it for two reasons.

It samples stand by me (one of the greatest love song of all time), and listeners love it...however it is one of those songs that once it goes to recurrent it will be history...It will be forgotten.

I definitely think the sampling of "Stand By Me" is why hot ACs are playing it. But, to me, "Beautiful Girls" is one of the worst songs ever made.
