Because There Are (And Will Be) Interesting HD Channels...

Folks,

I find that, with my Insignia portable HD radio, I can get a bit of WJLK-HD2 Shore Alternative on my commute to and from work. North of where it drops out, I start picking up 102.7 HD2's "Last.fm/Discover" format. In between, there's room for one more...

At any rate, seems to me like HD may be something to listen to hereabouts, if you can (a.) receive it and (b.) get a receiver that works. Fortunately, Overstock.com is currently carrying refurbed Insignia portables for $34.99, with $2.95 shipping, so if you wanted to take the plunge, now's a good time. Who knows, there might be another HD2 signal filling in that format gap soon...

Details on that deal and the other deals Overstock has on HD are up at http://www.altrokradio.com . There's also an Altrok Radio iPhone app floating around (remember the proper misspelling when you search for it in the app store) which renders all this stuff I've been being coy about moot...

I have a portable HD radio. I use it so rarely that the battery dies after a few days. There is nothing good (for me) on HD radio in New York City.

Actually, one thing I've done around my home is make my own translator, by tuning the HD radio to something I like and rebroadcasting it through a C. Crane FM transmitter (with the tweak that bumps its power up a tad - Google it) on an open frequency. Not that there's a lot of open frequencies, but 103.9 works for me here in central NJ. (I'll often listen to the Altrok Radio iPhone app that way. Did I mention there's a hint there?)

But really, it's gotta work in the car, and that's where I hope the power increase makes a difference.

Is there anything worth listening to on HD for those of us here in Southern Ocean County? Unless you're a fan of Top 40, Soft Rock, Classic Rock, Country or Jesus Radio (and if you like them, you've got TONS of options to choose from, esp. the first two), FM radio is worthless around here.

SoulCrusher, as I posted at: http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=159427.0

With my Insignia Portable HD Radio, in HD I get:

100.1 WJRZ and 104.9 WSJO. That's it. And neither has an HD-2. I had the "HD" icon come on at 93.3 WMMR, 95.7 WBEN, 101.1 WBEB, 102.1 WIOQ, 102.9 WMGK and 106.1 WISX but it never actually switched to HD, even for a second.

Sadly, nothing I'm aware of. Wonder who might see the opportunity there?

I can now say im one with a portable HD radio, and it can also stream internet radio as well and I can still hear my personal playlist. I'm talking about the Zune HD. Let's see what other selections they have to offer and how well I can recieve HD channels.
