Bedding In A Format....

How long should you give format to find it's leg's? I ask this because there is a radio group in Australia that doesn't seem to stick at things too long. Their CHR stations are travelling quite well, but the (so called) rock stations seem to be being "ajusted" every year or so. The management seems to not know where to focus their energy. I tunned in the other day to find that they had gone back to a format they had 2 years ago, before a very poor sounding "JACK like" format of most recent times.

That is one of those questions that has no real answer! First it depends on the owners and the market. If they want instant returns, then you have one ratings book to make it work. If they are in for the long haul, then you might have more time. Here in Atlanta, the average time a new format is given is about two ratings books (six months). If it hasn't made a splash, then something else comes along.
