Bee: AAR Confirms Move to KCTC/1320 Nov. 1

From Mr. McManis in the Bee today, confirming what's been posted here:

<a target="_blank" href=http://www.sacticket.com/tv_radio/story/13646333p-14488628c.html>http://www.sacticket.com/tv_radio/story/13646333p-14488628c.html</a>

The confirmation comes from AAR spokesperson Jamie Horn, and KSAC/1240's owner/GM Paula Nelson-Redfield.

One minor error in the article: McManis says that Ed Schultz, Stephanie Miller and Thom Hartman(n) are syndicated by Democracy Radio. In fact, DR is now only involved in Ms. Miller's show, Miller and Schultz are syndicated by Jones Radio, and Thom Hartmann is now syndicated by, oddly enough, AAR's new syndication arm.

The ownership of Schultz's show is now by a company called Product First (P1), started up by former Clear Channel radio executive Randy Michaels.

If you read the whole article you'll note the "Oh Boo Hoo Hoo"
comments. Shucks, station owners, you gotta face it: AAR
is a BUSINESS, not simply the plaything of some ideologues.

You took the chance of taking them on to buy some ratings
'cause you are in business and understood the upside. But
you failed to consider the downside. It's all about business.
It's not about loyalty or being thankful for being given an
opportunity.

It's about business. Somebody else had a better
signal so yer scrooooed. As will be the new outlet be one day
if the trend toward FM talk continues or an even better AM
signal becomes available.

Grow up girlie!

And not only that, KSAC itself caused some of these problems with AAR.

For one, the station - which carried much of the network's programming at launch - eventually moved brokered host Mary Jane Popp to 3 PM, pre-empting the last hour of AAR's Randi Rhodes. Through most of its run, it didn't carry the network at all on weekends, opting for its own locally-run blues programming.

The upshot - Ms. Nelson-Redfield's idea of what the station should run was not ever being a "full-time" AAR affiliate. She's got a lot of things on her plate, including the blues programming and an attempt to serve the market's African-American community. The network got a better signal (and more clearance) with KCTC, and took it. Welcome to business, Ms. Nelson-Redfield.

Good points OA as usual....

For someone like me that is glad more choices are available on the liberal/progressive side.....i like the last part of the article

"How the change will really play out, though, is still to be measured. However, at least one Air America listener is optimistic.

"I like the fact that we'll have a choice now," said Frank Weinstein of Roseville. "I'll probably try both stations."

Its good to now begin to have some choices.....this is better than no choice any day of the week.....it will also continue to help liberal programming...if this happens....AAR and Jones and the independant liberals will have to compete more so the quality will hopefully continue to improve...and those that don't survive will have other places to rebuild and try again i hope..
