BEEP BEEP BEEP instead of spanish on 530

There's a beaping carrier on 530. My friend can hear it in macomb, il said it's beeping LYQ. Anyone know what this is?

-Rob

How much power do these stations usually run? I'm 110 miles away and can hear it in the daytime. At night it really messes up "EZ-530" from Cuba.

I've heard it in southeast Iowa and it's been a regular visitor here in Ottawa the past few weeks, creating a het on CIAO 530.

I'm just 54 miles from this beacon...so it's strong day and night. I went to the webpage associated
with it ( www.wwrb.org ), and understand they have a large religious SW operation (and belive the world is out to shut down all religious radio).
Can someone explain the purpose of their beacon on 529? Do they have an airport on site?

I heard it, I heard it, I heard it,,, Its 10:05 Indiana time, and im located just south of Indianapolis, I clearly heard the Beep Beep Beep, very clearly on AM 530,, It seemed to have a series of a couple pf beeps, then a pause, and then starts beeping again... Being Closer to Tennessee than the other posters I figured I could hear it pretty well here at night,,, underneath the beeping was spanish talk, it may have been the Cuban station, I can tell you that the spanish talkers on 530 sounded kinda angry and cold and not friendly or warm at all, so it may have very well been Cuba.. Is this 530 Cuba station in Havanna? Or even farther away, even if it was farther, it still would be closer than KOA and it booms in here every night, I wish I would have caught this thread and checked out that 529 beacon last night cause I was getting very strong TENN singnals last night. WSM was booming in like local even with the car running and the heater on it put hardly any static in it, but WSM is noisy tonight... That is weird, cause certain stations like WSM 650 and also 820 in Dallas used to come is clear as a bell at night in Indiana,, Now sometimes I cant even get WLS 150 miles away day or night, and can barely get 840 WHAS and 700 WLW both only 100 miles away, but yet if I go out to the middle of Kansas, all those stations boom in........... WEIRD Propogation.

530 would have be Havana; I don't believe the Turks and Caicos blaster has returned since Hurricane Ike.
Your problems with WHAS and WLW are simple groundwave-skywave cancellation. When I lived in Columbus (Ohio) I was well inside WLW's groundwave coverage - only 90 miles or so from the tower - because the tower is between Cincy and Columbus.
As for WLS, good luck getting consistent reception unless you're inside their strong local coverage area, and even then it's apparently not a lock judging from some things I've read here.

I get Chicagos 670 Used to be MMAQ, and 720 WGN, 780 WBBM, but cant usually get 890 wsl, or 1000 at all anymore. 1000 used to have a decent signal when they wer The Loop and played music at night... I could pick it up in Kentucky and they played music at night.

In other thoughts, I don t recon the cubans on 530 care about usulisteners, so I doubt they even know about the beacon on 529.. That Beacon is really strong, I noticed I can hear it the day time as long as the engine isnt running.

I heard it too in Saline MI... mixing with Polish talk on CIAO and an instrumental version of the Bobby Hebb hit "Sunny" which I assume was Cuba's Radio Enciclopedia. I was in my car at the time and at first thought I hadn't closed my door properly because of the beeps, until I realized my car doesn't beep in Morse Code. :)

Where is this Polish Talk channel at.. I assume Canada somewhere cause of the calls.

It's from Brampton Ontario, just outside of Toronto, it runs 1000 watts daytime and 250 at night. And, yes, it's call letters really are CIAO, and they still run some Italian programming during the day.

Rob,
The Beep Beep Beep you are hearing is LYQ, outside of Nashville, a non-directional beacon on 529 kHz. If you got a 1 kHz tone, then it's a Trans-Atlantic het.

Yep,I get it from sundown to sun-up. At first I thought it was a guy down the street who messes with Hifer beacons, but he didn't have anything running.
