Before Mix 99.9

The 1989 Broadcasting Yearbook lists CKFM having a "light rock" format.
Lite and easy rock would have been a good choice of words. I can't seem to find an old aircheck, but if I do, I'll let you know.

The Rock Radio Scrapbook site has an aircheck of CKFM from 1979 - interestingly, from the night of the Woodstock tornado, and host Carl Banas mentions tornado warnings being issued over Lake Erie. The one (scoped) song played is "You Can't Change That" by Ray Parker Jr. & Raydio. According to the exhibit description, the format was MOR at that time.

At one point in the 80's/early 90's both CHUM FM and CKFM competed for the Sunday night ear.
They both aired their own version of "Sunday night funnies".

"The Sound of Our Toronto"....CKFM

I seem to have a memory of hearing Herbie Mann's disco jazz minor hit "Superman" around 1980.

I think in the 80s they were a more boring version of CHUM-FM.
