Behringer MDX 2200 Limiter

I apologize in advance for a possible unanswerable question but is there a standard setting that I can use for this piece of equipment? It's being used on an AM station. I have no engineering experience whatsoever and have never had to set anything like this up. It's hooked up and ready to go. I'm just not sure what the knobs should be turned to. Any help you can give with this would be great!

Thanks!

That's is pretty much unanswerable without know what else is in your audio chain, and where this equipment is in relation to those other elements.

With that being said, considering that you don't understand what this equipment does, I suspect that using the AUTO function will have better results that having you fiddle with knobs blindly. This is a stereo compressor/limiter, so you'd only use one side for AM mono.

If you can find the user's manual, you'll learn a lot more about what the unit is capable of. Try Behringer support. You may be able to get it directly from Behringer, or it's available for download at:

As SirRoxalot said, we need to know its function and location to give a precise answer.

That said, I would start by using a threshold of around -10, a ratio of 2:1 or 3:1, and the AUTO on (don't try to adjust attack and release). I would then adjust the peak limiter from there. These settings work well with the dbx 166L.

With more info, we could give a better answer.

Also, take a look at this literature for some basic theory on compressors

A compressor-limiter like that won't be adequate to control modulation peaks on an AM station with the required NRSC Pre emphasis curve/filter. You do know that you need a NRSC filter in your final audio stage don't you? The filter limits the audio high frequency response to 10kHZ. The Behringer does not have the pre emphasis nor the 10kHZ filter in it.
