Belar FMS-2

Hi guys,

I need a used Belar FMS-2 modulation monitor for analyzing and testing my FM signal. I'd like to get a used one because to buy one new is unnecessarily expensive.

Does anyone have a used one or know where I could purchase one?

Thanks.

Isn't the FMS-2 just the stereo decoder chassis? I may be wrong, but I seem to recall that you need the FMM-2, or a source of clean, demodulated baseband audio to use the Belar stereo monitors. On a budget, you might consider a low cost P175 FM modulation analyzer from Pira.

Well this will be going after my Orban 8500. I need to de-emphasize at 75us.

The FMM-2 is only mono and I need a stereo signal to be processed.

BTW: I will look at the link posted, thanks!

I'm not really sure what value there is in looking at the composite signal before the transmitter. The 8500 on board metering
will do that for you. Ordinarily you monitor modulation, pilot level, etc after transmission using a modulation/stereo monitor
combination that starts with an RF sample from the transmitter or from an antenna.

However, if you are just looking to decode a composite signal back to L and R Audio, this is a great
little tool for that- http://www.inovonicsbroadcast.com/model/514

If you feed composite into it you'll be able to decode the baseband into Left and Right audio without any problems. I saw a similar tactic used at a station where they only had a composite STL and desired discrete left and right at the transmitter site.

I have an RCA-branded FMS-1 available, condition unknown since I don't have the mate to it. You would need to power it externally since it normally gets its power from an FMM-1. Don't know if that will help you or not.

The FMM-2 provides a composite output which is fed into the FMS-2 stereo monitor. Stereo stations used both, mono stations just the FMM. If you need to accurately monitor your transmitted baseband, difference, and pilot signals you will need both.
