Belated intro, but I'm still a "New Participant"...

Just a rather lurky one.

I'm a native transplant, having been born in San Diego and having had to move back after 18 years of absence. I grew up here listening to the local smooth jazz/new age station, which had been registered as KIFM. My mother was the hard rocker, not me. But we did agree on the breakfast program on B-100, B Morning Zoo (KFMB-FM).

When I moved to the Florida suburbs after 9th grade, I was first exposed to community radio, and all of its block-organized randomness. There was a college-type radio show I liked on there that was often preceded by a klezmer show, so I kind of got to appreciate that as well. But I also became acutely aware of the most mainstream pop/rock/country of the day, usually pretty begrudgingly. So, in addition to the community radio station, I liked the Mix station, too.

Fast forwarding to now, I suppose, I have become a radio and TV buff, and so I belong to this board plus TVNewsTalk. The artsy side of me realizes that everything from music mix to station IDs and announcers plays a part in my media consumption experience. So, I joined TVNT after just having a random, seemingly FCC related question, and I stuck around. And at some point I figured that if TVNT existed, there must be kind of a radio equivalent, where buffs and other consumers can discuss those kinds of questions. And so here I am.

My own habits include Spotify, NPR, a terrestrial jazz station (mostly old jazz, not so much smooth jazz) and various webstreams of college or community radio.

I like 80's/90's (The Beat, New Order, Smashing Pumpkins, Pavement and many others), old jazz (Monk, Basie, Blakey, etc), ambient techno (Kiasmos), drone (Stars of the Lid) indie (more poppy than rocky kind of bands). And others.

Been here for a while now, but my posting archive seems not to show an intro.

Cheers.
