According to William Hepburn's Automated TV DX Log found at the link attached below, CHCH has begun testing of transmissions on UHF channel 15. CHCH has had plans to vacate the traditional VHF channel 11 since 2012 due to impulse noise from trees and tree branches caused by the 8VSB modulation method used by the ATSC platform that the VHF spectrum is especially vulnerable to, but nothing had come of this until now.
My prediction is that same channel interference with WBNF-CD near Buffalo, New York will by no doubt cause over-the-air viewers in and around the Niagara Region to lose the signal entirely due to same-channel interference. Does this mean that WBNF will move somewhere up the UHF dial, or are more over-the-air viewers going to be left out forever?
