Bell/Astral: Take 2

The missing information: who will buy the stations in the Toronto market and a few other markets?

Here's my unscientific predictions:

Vancouver - Newcap
Calgary - Pattison
Winnipeg - Pattison
Toronto - Newcap

I think Moses Zaminer might also be interested in one station each in Winnipeg, Calgary, and Vancouver so he can launch local versions of "Zoomer Radio" (now heard on CFZM-740 Toronto) in those markets.

Joseph.....maybe in Vancouver with CISL 650 because whoever ends up with the 2 FM's out here (whether it be Newcap or not) would probably have no interest in doing anything with CISL. The FM sticks in Calgary and Winnipeg are worth far too much, probably beyond the reach of Mr. Znaimer.

Crap. According to the linked article, Corus is picking up CJOT 'Boom' 99.7 and CKQB 106.9 'The Bear'. Same old, same old, for Ottawa I guess.

Those are 2 FM's that I do check out from time to time when I feel like hitting the FM switch. I hope they stay as they are, and I think it would be a shame to lose the bear....a long rock history that goes back to it's 54 rock days.

Personally I'd love to see AM/FM simulcasting allowed so I can hear them go back to 540.

I can't see Corus making any major changes to The Bear, but I'm guessing that Boom FM will vanish (a rebranding at the very least).

Here's a good read to make note of:

Sounds like the CRTC is still questioning if it's really something better for the viewers and listeners.
Or is it just simply stuffing the bottom line with greater returns at Bell.

"Given the nature and the size of the proposed transaction, the Commission may wish to discuss the concentration of ownership and potential market dominance..."
