Bellingham

Bellingham is its own market I guess - but it doesn't have its own board.

I wonder how they're dealing with all the firings in Vancouver. Buzz Bishop, a 13 (?) year veteran of 95.3 FM has been tweeting about the changes and layoffs extensively.

I guess it may be a delayed reaction since radio and media in Canada held their own in 2008 but are surely off like ours in 2009.

That I know of:
Buzz from 95.3 (Z/Crave/Virgin Radio)
8 from Corus Radio
2 from "Jack FM" (yes, unlike CBS, they actually have on-air talent with the format - it sounded GOOD)

There's a pretty good reason why Bellingham doesn't have it's own board - all (except one) locally programmed commercial radio stations are run by Saga. The remainder are religious, Punjabi-For-Vancouver and public stations. Now if other Saga Bellingham were split up and more competition happening between commercial radio interests, then I could see how a board for Bellingham would make sense.....

How about a Bellingham-Victoria-Vancouver board? I would gladly contribute to something like this. As it stands now a lot of my postings on the Seattle board are really quite irrelevant to a lot of you guys. Sure, there is a Radio Info.com Canadian board, but that thing is 99% Ontario oriented. Food for thought.

BONG...I have always wondered about that Saga deal. I thought there was a "monopoly" clause in FCC rules (lax as they are) about one owner being too dominant. Of course, in 2-owner scenarios...each claims they only get "48%" of the revenue, so somewhere 4% is missing. I'll take it. But in your market, doesn't seem like the "leftovers" would account for 50% of the market revenue. So do you know how this came to be?? Was it an oversight caused by the FCC believing Bellingham is in Canada....or did Glenn Beck pull some strings??

Well LBB, I have given up trying to find anything the FCC did in the 1990s and much of this decade that wasn't corporately/politically motivated years ago. All I know is Bellingham is now one of the biggest hotspots of pirate radio in the Northwest.

The same argument can be made in Mount Vernon.......

I agree.

Hey for some one that stepped my feet in the door ways of KAPS/KBRC and KAFE, any news on these radio giants is always amusing. Even if there is a dead fly on the studio clock, that's news to me!!
